I can only share the general opinion that the Connor/Deirdre interaction here is very entertaining. Maybe not out-and-out funny -- it would be hard to be that, given the shadow of war -- but certainly fun to read. Mind you, I do feel rather sorry for Fithir. I wonder whether she suspects that her husband is thinking of Deirdre when they go to bed.
I've said so several times in the past that Connor and Deirdre may be just about my favorite couple out of all the ones I've ever created. Their constant bickering was always lots of fun to write, though it was always my intention, at least, to show that they still love each other a great deal. It would be hard to call their conversation comedy. They both take things very seriously, especially where their daughter is concerned. But I can't help but enjoy it when I read back through it, myself. As for Fithir, you find out more about her a bit later. So for now all I'll say is that she's more understanding than I think most people would be in her situation. I really don't do her justice in this book, I think. I won't say any more than that, for fear of spoiling things, but I could fill several more novels with everyone's histories if I wanted to.
