She's not wrong though.
Problem is that when Madam Jade said "hardly a stitch on them", I legitimately thought she was talking about "lack of battle scars". So when I registered Sandy's question it hit me twice as hard.
I can also hear the disembodied voices of former co-workers asking me "are you sure you're not gay?", but that's beside the point.

Oh, as much as I appreciate your assurance, I really didn't mind being asked. I'll answer it even when not asked... I'm (begrudgedly) Asex. Mostly due to my Gymnophobia. (Irrational fear of Nudity.)
Hence, why I mentioned the part in the spoilers. Because the first thing I thought of was battle scars and not the clothing.
Funny story: Please read if you like. Didn't know it was called that at the time though, so it really confused people that I just simply wasn't attracted to physical beauty. I jokingly described it as "Look, there can be a can-can line of women in their bikinis can dance right across the lobby and the first thing I'd notice is that they're doing the can-can." So, it's my fault really that said co-worker would ask the question.
However, after about a month of this one guy asking (mind you, at this point it was just an inside joke). I got sick of it. So when asked it again, I said "YES! I'm gay! I'm as gay as a woman trapped in a man's body can get! And loving every minute of it! Muwahahaha!!!" The look of confusion on his face was priceless enough, but the icing on the cake was when he asked, "what does that even mean?" And my best friend at the time shouted from across the store, "It means he's straight, dingdong!"
Needless to say, he never asked me again. ;-P

Gymnophobia. (Irrational fear of Nudity.)
I had not heard of that before. I'm not afraid of being nude... I just know what I look like and NOBODY wants to see that, not even ME, so I don't.
more along the lines of I'm Ashamed of what I look like, teased, bullied, insulted my entire life, so unless I REALLY trust someone, I prefer the lights off.
I LOVE sex, like 99% for girls, but for guys (bisexual) there has to be something... either emotional or just lust, and a Whole Heaping Amount of trust... so only two or three times in my life (TMI, but no details)
I get the 'woman trapped in a mans body' thing, that's an old joke and I've used it myself a few times.

As I heard it, it was "I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body."
Funny about the "scar/stitch" thought, Cobalt--that aspect never even occurred to me, but it's pretty clever. I might have to incorporate that later on, said by one of the Crocutans. Madam Jades species isn't warlike, so she wouldn't notice scars.
Oddly, in real life, high-ranking hyenas do not have scars; their society is so stratified that no one would dare to attack them. The low-ranking hyenas get beat up all the time. Low-ranking hyenas will always yield to their social superiors. And most of the injuries you'll see come from trying to eat faster than anybody else, not from antagonistic fighting.
I wish I'd known that factoid before I designed the old matriarchs to look battlescarred. A real hyena queen would look more like Kalua, without a scratch.

I was going to say the lesbian thing, but I'm a guy so someone might have been offended... and I offend enough people by just existing, I didn't wanna add to the list...
heck, two days ago I 'offended a millennial' just by making a joke when she said she'd call me when my potatoes were unloaded, I asked "What are you going to call me, something polite I hope!"
I'm like... seriously? I wasn't even TRYING to offend you, lady (assuming her gender, gasp), if you want me to be offensve, I'm Generation-X... I can be SUPER offensive!

Honestly, I never heard the phrase before, I legit thought of it on my own. I just wasn't lucky enough to have been the first to have. *shrugs*
Well, I did get the "Scar/stitch thing" from you, to be fair. Obviously, they wouldn't have scars from battles with their subordinates, but (as you described) they are proud of any scars they received in battle as they're marks of honor... Well, except in Jinjur's case for rather obvious reasons.
Honestly, I still think it was a great form of worldbuilding, even though now we both know it doesn't match up to the real life hyenas. It didn't even occur to me that there were different societies of hyenas, so the fact that Jade in specific wouldn't make that type of connection herself, is yet another great addition to that worldbuilding. (Even if it was unintentional at first.)

Well, actually my own fear is more of seeing other people's rather than from seeing (or being seen) myself. I mean there was a borderline bit of that a while back (especially during those "special years"), but I worked on it and now I'm over it... Hopefully, I will find that special someone who can help me with the seeing other's part. (I did say "begrudgedly")
Proudly still a virgin though. Does it show? ;-p
(Seriously, the amount of things I know about sexual matters, despite my handicap...what the Yiff?)

my problem was being exposed to 'sexual stuff' WAY too early (raped at 8yo, dad's playboys and pornos)
but then I also look like 10lbs of crap in a 5lbs bag because zero self confidence or self esteem, zero irl friends, been rejected by Both genders for DECADES and haven't even so much as been out on a DATE in over 16 years
I'd Give it away but no one wants it from me.
so completely opposite problems here.

Genuinely, I wish there was something I could say, but clearly I'm not qualified. No one is.
Porn alone is a confidence killer, but the mental effects that can come from *that*, especially at a young age.
Weaker men than me would kill to prevent that.
I keep mine so "proudly" guarded because I saw first-hand how giving it away recklessly destroyed my parents.
If I had, I didn't mean to touch a sore spot.
