NOT DRAWN BY ME -- I've seen commissions and gift art before here on FA in recipients' accounts so, am privileged to include this one in mine.
Gift art from that pointy pony, and fellow Funday PawPet Show IRC "peanut gallery" irregular, Roy Calbeck. Done in appreciation for having salvaged his "Red Shetty" animation edit from the galactic bit bucket.
Some of you have noticed that a detail from the centre panel had been my new icon for a while.
Appearing the week of Jan 16, 2011 in The Cross Time Cafe -- http://www.whiteponyproductions.com.....tc/present.htm (as persistent link http://www.whiteponyproductions.com.....ctc/f522c.jpg) and, I've since learned, ends this particular story arc save for an expected conclusion this weekend next.
My furrsona's second appearance in a webcomic this year and, the first ever in colour. It seems to have sparked some interest in the CTC forum so, we'll see if he winds up in future strips.
Roy discussed this with me as it progressed and some issues were resolved but others weren't. The less-than-authentic kimono is based on prior gift art of my character done by the famous Garrison Skunk of FPS and, I've only just surmised. he patterned it after those worn by the hosts in the "Takeshi's Castle" game show. That's not Roy's cigar afire: it's his cookoff entry, a "vodka shotdog," from another artist's strip in this story arc: http://www.whiteponyproductions.com...../ctc/f508c.jpg

Addendum: Calbeck's comments, in response to various questions, posted Wed Jan 19, 2011 4:30 am in the CTC Forum at http://www.talkaboutcomics.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=49312&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 & included for completeness. I wrote my entry before reading this and, as they concur wonderfully, see no reason to change it.
"Okay, in no particular order:
1) Nope, that's not QUITE the "style" that was being referenced before --- what had originally happened, was I thought I was under the deadline gun and rushed out a penciled-and-colored-but-not-inked strip. I was never happy with it, and it contained mistakes. So when I found out that it wouldn't be showing for another couple months, I took my time and reworked it with proper inks and corrections.
2) Yes, that's a shot-dog. Roy can't really cook much of anything more complex than that...unless it comes in an MRE bag. -:D
3) Yes, Sakana Katana is a cameo-ing character copyright to a particular person. He appears as thanks for his creator finding a long-lost animation edit of mine. He's been very patiently waiting and I hope he likes the final result. -:)
4) SK is indeed a tanuki, might return in a future strip if the plot calls for it, and I know for a fact his creator won't mind another cameo --- if the details are kept clear! As it is, I still fouled up a couple things with my own version, such as the kimono. I like to think I'm a bit of a stickler for historical details and I missed that one anyways. -:/
5) I spent quite a bit of time going over Bill's "Freighter Tails" for good references of Mzkitti...when I have a decent reference and am not trying to draw from memory, I seem to do pretty well. Thanks for the compliments!
6) It's CAVALRY, goldangit! Calvary is a holy site...Cavalry runs over holy sites! Get it right! -:F"
Thanks, Roy!
