The Cometbreaker is primarily used as a dinghy for larger ships containing two or three of them at a time. They get their namesake from their primary activity which is harpooning meteoroids. Cometbreakers have no steam engines, but instead have an extensive array of high-energy batteries because of the batteries’ lightweight and rechargeability in addition to cometbreakers going out on their own for only a few hours.
After bringing a comet onboard, they melt it down to get rid of the high ice content and render it down to other materials. The most valuable mineral commonly found in comets and nowhere else is called mother-of-pearl. Mother-of-pearl is toxic, causing vision loss, paralysis, and seizures, but in smaller amounts can be used in manufacturing of Edisonian valves, mirrors, electrochemistry, and perhaps its most widespread use, as the base for paint that reflects kinetic energy.
