Ajani pondered as to whether to get rid off the fat or to keep it, he decided to make use of it, by storing extra mana onto body mass. Sure his mobility is none-existent now, but that can be compensated by innate nature of planeswalking or using certain spells.
With this much condensed mana charge in his body, he can cast higher density spells.
Of course, this kind of physique is not fit for direct combat, so best to use this shape in "peaceful" time.
So this form is best for transferring large amounts of mana from plane to plane, making him a great support in different kind of way.
And of course, a huge cat with even bigger belly is awesome to cuddle with, and lay on his belly like it's a mattress.
