Interesting stuff! Although as I understand the lore, isn’t it the other way around? The Black Idol itself is somehow the greater whole of “humanity,” with individuals being offshoots? The way I remember it is that the “transformation” they experience when interacting with the idol is simply returning to their true form.
I think this it what happens when a revered fragment tries to take a 'human' form again without the same strength of will Julia had, it's smal enough and has been separated from the whole long enough it's gaining the form of 'humanity' with out having been a human (or anthro) to begin with an idol individual
