Please go give him praise for this pleasing portrait of a partly productive python!

So, because Menagerie is awesome, when we decided to connect on OC and on Moonedit (which is like OC, but for writing) at the same time, he did this stunning picture while I just tinkered with tiny tidbits of text, which didn't amount to much of anything, as I recall.
He had enough coolness in his teeny tablet nub to draw an amazing author-Amethystine, and THEN insert himself as the cute little bird, commenting on how I'm not really doing much in the way of writing.
(If I'm making him sound smug or anything like that, it's just that I'm being self-deprecating, he didn't mean anything by it, clearly :} )
Anyway, it's the best use of a snake's coils as a writing-type tabletop I've ever seen (Sorry Nay, it beats the old Chibi authorAme!), look at how he has that loop laid over his first coil, perfect for placing my PC 'pon!
Also, as I tried to outline in the keywords, I think Menag captured the weight and feel of the curvy-ness of the coils themselves, as well as the way a real big snake's mass is distributed into those clear contours seen above! It looks super comfy, don't you think?
Now, to deal with this well-intentioned but pesky bluejay! >:}===<

What happens next is the bird and I get busy! :P No, not really.
Anyway, thanks for the fave! I wonder, did you mean you went off to actually +Watch Menagerie? Or did you mean you'd go watch him, like you were waiting for him to do something that revealed the next part of the "story"?
I'm sure it was just the +Watch thing, but that weird thought is what came to mind first. :}
Oh! I see you faved his posting of this, too. Excellent! Thanks again. Also, I see you like that Chimera, too. Very cute, especially that tail. :}===<
And, of course, that "Snakeshaft" picture is rather the best thing ever.

I feel that way about kirkrapine sometimes all the time. I really dig your character and this is a pretty great rendition. Snakes are hard to draw if only because its such a temptation to overdetail the scales. It just works here. Plus it's recognizably a python in all of the features and pythons need way more respect than they get.
Hear hear! Power to the pythonic peoples! :D
I liked your non-anthro bid-self, but I'm quite more enamored with seals. Especially such a dapper one as you! I wonder, though, because it's how I prefer to envision anthro-seals.. you seem to go for non-anthro, or very human-ish, like in your "Simple Pleasures" submission, but do you ever wind up like this? http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1697958/ (possibly with a more seal-ish face, as in your icon)
I ask, as that half-anthro-ish, legless form is typically how I prefer every aquatic species, ever. :}
But to actually respond to your comment, I was going to say that Menagerie really did a great job with the coils, but what I didn't say in my comment box above was how he did a good job of just 'edging' the scales, so that they only show up to the sides and in certain places that gives a perfect impression of them without him needing to draw them ALL.
But he still DID draw them all, here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3242618/

Oh gosh, I've seen that submission before but somehow never +faved it. The answer is yes in every sense. Blackwell's law is that he can be human, a fully feral seal, and pretty much anything in between. He has a hard time maintaining a human shape when he's overemotional though, even if its a good mood. Non seal forms are hard for him to maintain but he doesn't have much trouble placing various (and generally permanent) forms on others. His main weakness is iron, which prevents his shapeshifting and other minor powers as long as he touches it... Also messes him up quite a bit. But yes, a kind of slippery selkie merperson is quite within the realm of possibility. I have to admit that legs feel entirely optional for me in the best of times.... And the worst of times ;3
This second submission is also amazing, by the way. We should chat on IMs.

Yesss, we should.. :}===< (Do you still use the AIMname listed on your Kirk account?)
Glad to hear it, about Blackwell's shapeshifting and whatnot. The iron weakness reminds me of the traditional Fey weakness thing (which I may or may not have learned about from Gargoyles :P )
Funnily, I was always disappointed in the selkie mythos, because while we like to use that term NOW for a mer-seal-sort of being, the reality was that, in the legends, they were just a seal and then took of their skins and then they were just a human! NO neato anthro middle ground, or mer-ish half-way point.
Then again, I'd just imagine a selkie with their skins half off and tied around the waist like a sweater or something, so they'd have the human upper body and the seal-tail. :>

Yes, Blackwell is actually a bit of a fey! But I don't play it up much. He's mostly a weird reinterpretation of selkies that bastardizes any actual myths for my personal amusement. And I do sort of use aim, I'm mostly on skype as kirkrapine.. and steam as well, you can add me under eniezen. I'm online on all of them, even AIM right now if you want to chat.
And you know, I bet if I had a sekie skin I would have selkie pants too.

*oets the little legged lap-snake lad*
I concur! The coils are the cream of the crop. The face is great as well, but there have been so many other pictures of the python that showcase his snout and torso and stuff, that it's nice to have a coil-heavy/coil-focused one. Hrmm.. coil-heavy.. or heavy-coils?

Thanks for the fave on this and for extending that same courtesy to Menagerie, as well! :D
Yes, the expression of "You're cute and all, but you're bugging me/distracting me from my work, and your little talons are scratching my scales.. get off get off!" ...all internalized. >:I

In the novel I wrote and hope one day to have published, two of the main characters are twin brothers. One of them become a Blue Jay, and the other a Python.
And I have arts of them!
