This year marks 100 years since the novel Bambi by Felix Salten was published. I drew Bambi as a roe deer in the style of the film, being that he and his fellow deer are roe deer in the original story.
I read the book myself for the first time ten years ago, when I got my Kindle and used a gift card to buy ebook versions of all the books which inspired my favorite animated animal movies like the The Fox and the Hound and Watership Down. Bambi was first on my list of said books, and holy wow was it an impactful read! I grew up loving Disney’s animated adaptation, a film which gave me the inspiration to start drawing at an early age (mostly deer LOL) and inspired my art style, so I was very excited to read the original tale, though I already knew the brief synopsis because I read about the book online some years earlier LOL. Only issue is that the original novel was published in German, so sometimes the language in English translations of the book can be kinda weird (apparently a much better English translation exists now), but that didn’t take away from the impact of the story as a whole, in my opinion.
