We researched viking shields, real flails, and saw projects in which researchers were creating authentic reproductions of historical weapons. We decided to blend authentic and fantasy features — like the thick metal shield frame and a long flail chain (not actually a morningstar, but the name is usually used to describe this type of flail!).
