Cobalt identified the goat parts of his body immediately. The growth of horns was his first indication. The presence of blue-gray hooves and fingertips confirmed it, as did a number of other aspects. He was intrigued to notice trace elements of his lion self, particularly evidenced by the small claw tips on his hoofy fingers and a tail evoking a half-lion, half-goat aesthetic that ended up looking exactly like that of a donkey. Wispy platinum hair fell over his face, and he was suddenly aware of a peculiar tugging sensation at the point of his chin.
Looking straight down, he saw a neatly braided rope of hair that fell full to the ground and lay there in a coil. The pale beard was easily ten feet long, and weighed heavily on his chin.
He snorted, taking the braid in his hands. It felt almost like silk. His two wide, powerful hooves adjusted themselves as he straightened his posture on legs that were structured much differently than he was used to. He brushed the locks of hair behind his fluffy ears and stumbled to the nearest mirror to see his new face.
He gazed into his reflection and shrugged. He'd miss the stripes, he was sure of that. But he had to admit to a feeling of relief. That perhaps this was a body more suited for him, more accurate of his inner qualities. Either way, he suspected he would soon grow to enjoy his new life as the Cobalt Kimera.
So here he is, folks. Or here I am. However you want to look at it. I developed this new fursona in part because I was searching for a TF'ed form that I personally would love to experience. Don't get me wrong, there's a LOT of different bodies I'd want to inhabit, but when you move beyond quick, cheap thrills you have to ask yourself "Would I want to live in a body like this for a month? A year?" In such a case, one has to make more practical choices.
I like cats AND goats, and wasn't willing to ditch the old fursona completely, so I made sure to incorporate a few feline features. I think of myself, personality-wise, as sharing many cat and goat qualities. I'm ferociously independent and bare my teeth when threatened (metaphorically speaking), but I'm also giddy and social and a bit of a bother with people when I know I can get away with it.
When it comes to physical traits, I'm flexible, maneuverable, and sure-footed. Having experienced over a quarter century of icy winters in hilly regions, I think I might actually be descended from a family of proud mountain goats. (Someone actually made a remark like that once.)
Watchers know by now that I'm a fan of hair growth, so naturally my fursona needed long hair. It's nowhere near as long as I'd like it to be, but for the purposes of this image I had to keep it at knee length to keep CK from looking too ridiculous, and for another reason stated below. But holy crap, do I want this guy's hair. I'm establishing that it grows really fast, so for future images he might have it looking totally different and it will be 100% plausible.
And there's the beard. Being a lover of "overboard" TFs, I had to pick at least one feature to go overboard with. Super long hair was too obvious a choice. I settled on growing out the beard because after years of slapping goatees on goat girls, it seemed only fair that I should get a taste of my own medicine. (Turns out, my own medicine tastes really really good.) I braided it to keep it manageable and looking somewhat dignified.
There ya go, everything you'd ever want to know about me and my fursona, plus a bunch more things you didn't. Hope you like the look! I'm quite proud of it.

Ah, no worries. I hope I didn't come across as being a jerk about it or anything, I was just surprised. ^_^;;
I was tired too, I forgot to actually comment on the artwork. Wonderful sequence. ^_^
I've changed species a couple of times myself over the years, the last time was about 5-6 years ago where I finally went ahead and let myself be a skunk full-time instead of staying on the fence. It mostly boils down to, as you said, being able to "I want to be able to live in this form for the rest of my life." (Mostly the same reason I haven't gotten any tattoos, I haven't been able to think of a design and location that I *know* I won't regret some day.)

I have been a non-morphic dragon since 1997 myself, perhsps longer without realizing. At times I think about and have thought about changing myself into another feral type of creature. I have thought about creatures such horses and unicorns, especially the Persian unicorn known as the Karkadann. A friend who came up with some very nice concepts for the Karkadann says the chest mane and the tufts of hair on the elbows of the Karkadann concept reminds her of a ram or goat. I guess flying and retaining my ability to do the things and work I love, plus the nice paws keeps me with the dragon. Very nice character design, not too many of these types of transformations around.
