This was a vent piece I started around a month ago when I was going through some rather tumultuous times.

While my struggles were in no way equitable to Daniel's in this scenario, elements of them were parallel. Thus it was soothing for me to explore those themes in this piece.

For context: this piece takes place shortly after Daniel's wife ( Dahlia ) files for divorce. While divorce wasn't commonplace and was hard for women to procure, Daniel admitted to a one-off affair. This gave Dahlia the means to file, gain custody of their son, and return to the mainland.

Although initially combative and desperate to maintain his marriage, Daniel inevitably gave in. Despite his love never wavering, Dahlia's was spent. There was nothing more he could do beyond accepting what was best for her and his son.
