Winter is unopposed.
Winter is unmerciful.
Winter is unbreakable.
Winter is unbroken.
Wherever you look around, among the wild northern forests the icy bite of the cold season is felt to the bone.
And no matter what conduct you take in life, no matter what walks of life you flaunt or what gods you pray to, winter is fair and impartial for us all.
As Prince Borgon and Silva had left behind the castle walls of an allied ruler that morning, they had been greeted by a strangely mild weather and a cloudless, mostly still sky.
Not a breath of wind, nor meteorological conditions that let them foresee what would have awaited them in a few hours.
The storm started suddenly, as if the two had crossed an invisible portal and had thus found themselves in a totally different area from the one on which their paws were resting right before.
And now, completely at the mercy of the elements, they just have to carry on.
There are no shelters in the area, and the forest is not thick enough to keep the icy wind from blowing through it, nor are the foliage thick enough to hold back the flakes of snow and ice that the blizzard carries with it.
The dragon prince raises his mantle to cover his face and keep safe his precious factotum, who in the meantime has summoned the power of fire to give them both a minimum of relief.
All they can do is keep walking until they'll be out of that forest, hoping with all their hearts to leave that winter's curse behind soon...
This concept idea was very unlucky.
I shaped the pic a couple of years ago, and I commissioned it to a very lazy artist.
They dropped the first sketch 4 months later and it was garbage.
Not at all as I asked it to be, so rough and with missing details that I think it was done in a rush.
On top of that, it was a pre-payment kind of deal, so I decided to ask for a full refund and for another year this idea stayed in my folder.
So, I'm very glad I had the chance to finally commissiong it with a more polite artist ^^
I wanted to show that even a prince and a strong enchantress may be at the mercy of the elements.
Perchance next time they'll bring with them warmer clothes!
