WARNING: Potential Spoilers Below!
Her father was dead, killed while trying to make peace with an enemy that only wanted to destroy. Connor had never been a soldier, and he never understood the way they thought. Now that same enemy was approaching the walls of the city, and everyone had looked to her for help. Ciara wasn't a soldier, either. She didn't even have the right to wear the crown she held in her hands. But she was Connor's only daughter and suddenly the bastard child nobody wanted was responsible for keeping everyone alive. She had chosen this path herself when she left Oseille to try to stop the war before it began. If she'd been born with any sense she would have stayed at her forge and helped the people who loved her rather than try to return to her forgotten past. But here she was with promises to keep, her father's greatest sin left alone to clean up all of the others. She would not fight. If she did, she would die. She would simply make sure that no more innocent lives were taken.
You thought that Ciara was just a sweet, harmless little vixen who loved her bunny. Most of the time, you'd be right. But the last thing you want to do is hurt the people she loves. She might not be trained as a soldier, but she comes from a long line of kings and conquerors and she has the absolute loyalty of the most powerful military force in the world. She's the new Queen of Cearnach, if only for the day, and the only thing that stands in her way is a simple promise. She swore she would stop the war, no matter what it cost.

*giggles softly and pokes out her tongue at the bunny*
Aww, stoppit you, you flatterer! Hee, but seriously, I do really think the picture and the scene go really well together, and both show the emotions that are going through Ciara so very well! I also saw you posted several chapters of Oseille, I will be downloading all of them to read soon! (Though how much time to read I have, I don't know, seeing as how awwwwwwwfully behind I am on my own writing... )

*Giggles* Aw, but I like to stroke your ego once in a while. What are friends for, after all?
I am glad you thought it worked well, though. And don't worry about reading those chapters any sooner than you have time for. I plan to get the rest posted fairly quickly, but I'm in no hurry for feedback. Besides, it has been a while since you've done much of anything here and I miss seeing your stories. So if there's any chance of new ones I'm all for your focusing on that!

*chortles and gives her bunny a playful lick over the nose*
Aww, well, it's certainly appreciated, darling!
*giggles and nods*
Yes, I am awfully behind on my projects, things have been insanely hectic here, there's been a few little troubles, and I'm procrastinating like mad, too... I really should get back into the swing of things! I have a new character to introduce to the Minty Mouse story-line, and I have to get my readers their Mara & Celeste fix before they get withdrawal symptoms!

Aw, well I can certainly understand that. I've been way behind on everything for the longest time, and there have been months at a stretch where I just didn't get any writing done. A new character sounds exciting, though! Those are always fun to play with, and you know I'll be looking forward to seeing them when you decide to reveal them. A new Mara and Celeste story would be great, too. It has been an awfully long time since we've heard a peep from either of them.
But I'm sure your fans can be patient a while longer, until you get settled again. I'm just glad to see you poking your head in here from time to time, and to know that you're still okay.

*chortles and wiggles her whiskers, winking*
Hee, yeh, things have been really hectic down here, and the weather hasn't been very much of a help either, either in cutting off our connection or the entire power, and making me sick ;-P So yeh, I fell rather behind on my writing, though I hope to pick it up soon again!
I gotta figure something out for dear Mara and Celeste, but I do kind of have an idea already for how I can bring them back and explain the absence, more or less anyway
*smiles and huggles the bunny close, giving a little rub here and there*
Yeh, you don't have to worry, I really am okay, just getting a bit overwhelmed now and then, but I aim to bring some order back into things so I can pick back up on my rhythm!

It really is, isn't it? I've been wanting to commission Iggi ever since I discovered her work, and she did an amazing job with this! This is the first time Ciara, or any of my characters, have been shown dressed in anything like this, too. Who would have thought that it would be Ciara, of all people, who was the first of my characters to show up in armor? I love her outfit, though. It's a bit closer to the sort of thing I imagined her wearing int he story, too. At least it has more of the sort of medieval flavor I was aiming for. Iggi did a wonderful job with all the little details, too. (Interesting fact. The clothes she's wearing are actually the official colors of her birth city. Just as the clothes Alana was wearing were in the official colors of her city.) The emotions in this piece are dead on with what I was hoping for, too. It's not often that I get my characters drawn in a darker sort of mood but I've had this little scene in my head for a while now. I'm glad you thought that the snippet I wrote for this worked with the picture, too. I wrote the snippet first, actually, before I even commissioned the picture. So the fact that it matches makes me quite happy, too!
She looks quite pissed off. I guess I would have been, in her place, just as well.
I'm quite surprised that her mother didn't give her at least rudimentary training, in times like that, knowing your blade and at least few little dirty tricks could mean the difference between life and death... especially for someone like a daughter of a king and his general.

Oh, that's putting it mildly. She wants blood, and it's just lucky for her enemies that she takes her promises very seriously.
Ciara knows enough to be able to defend herself, should she ever have to. Deirdre made certain of that. But I think there would be a significant difference between knowing how to wield a dagger and actually being trained for combat as a soldier. She's not defenseless but she's not a professional, that's all.

I think that term fits very well.
The thing about Ciara is she hates soldiers because she's bitter about her mother being away for so much of her childhood, and she absolutely refuses to carry a weapon or fight unless she has no other choice. So the fact that she can fight a little bit isn't really very apparent for most of the book. This is yet another one of those areas I wanted to explore further with the book, but which had to be cut out in the interest of keeping the story going.
