So, I see loads of growy Beastars pics that are awesome and tempt me.π
But the thing is... I never read Beastars. And I don't intend to.π
Why?
Because I know the basic lines of the story, and it's way too fucking dark, violent and depressing for me!π¨
And even worse, the main characters are 17 (at first)! They're fucking teenagers!
That makes their suffering even worse!π‘
And it makes my lighter and softer way of storytelling (plus the simple growth kink) just not work with it.
So, they had to be transplants for me to work on them. Thing is, in what universe put them?
I already knew I wanted one with anthro animals, so that left me with these options: Grow Force (my furryverse), Zootopia, Sing, The Bad Guys, Rock Dog, The Raccoons and Hanna-Barbera.
Grow Force, The Raccoons and Hanna-Barbera were immediately out. It just didn't mesh right.
The Bad Guys went out too, because it was a world with anthros and humans.
Same with Rock Dog and its nineties feel.
Zootopia? With all the similitudes and comparisons between both, it would feel redundant. And the whole Shrug of God about the reptiles and birds in Zootopia doesn't help.
Sing was the only one left. And actually one that worked. Not only the level of anthro mode was roughly the same, but the fact that many characters were part of a drama club made it fitting with the Moon Troupe.
So, how does this work?
First off, in the Sing-verse, the main characters are aged up from end of high school (17) to end of college (25).
They're in their last year at Cherryton, here one of the most prestigious colleges of the USA, in the drama course.
Their finals project is a 6 month internship at the New Moon Theater.
They will bond with the Troupe, discover their secrets, and reveal secrets of their own.
In the pic, Buster Moon teaches Musicomancy to one of the interns, Legosi Saint-Just.
(Note: This Legosi is in a MUCH better place than his canon self, mentallyπ)
(Note 2: ALL the interns areπ)
So, what do you think?π

Never watched sing, never plan to (Seeing a few clips and trailers made me think it's a cashgrab of musicals with furry characters because furries have money, they'll watch anything with furries)
But I will say, the two things do fit pretty well together. Sing being about music? A lot of characters from Beastars being in their school drama club? There ya go! Not to mention if the Beastars cast do still have some mental hang-ups from their main story versions, they could sing (eeh?) their feelings out instead of...Ya know...What actually happens there.

Honestly, I think you should give Sing a chance. It's not perfect, but it's a fun little feel-good movie (for me at least ^^)
Thanks ^^
Like I said in the description, the Beastars guys are in a much better place mentally. No racism carnivore-herbivore, no predation, means no reason for the utter tragedies that befall them in canon (for instance, Tem is very not dead )
Though they do have some other hangups from the "secrets" I mention in the description, that'll play a role in the story.
And I do intend to do a karaoke scene where they sing stuff tied to them (for instance, Louis and Porsha (from Sing 2) sing "Si seulement je pouvais lui manquer", a song about crappy fatherly relations...)
Can't wait your opinion on Zootopia/Brok ^^
Thanks ^^

I do like a good tragedy tale that doesn't shy away from bringing up some serious problems and shows the cruelty of the world. It doesn't always have to be happy and sappy.
But nevertheless I understand your point and Legocy could use a break from all that. Hope to see how will he adjust himself in this new world.

I agree tragedies can be good and important.
But I'm a sap for happier stories :embarrased:
A detail: it's not canon!Legosi, but a Legosi who's born and raised in the world of Sing.
Also, while it's not at the level of the canon, he and his friends had to go through some crap too.
