Kel is made of custom dyed minky, minky, and faux fur. They sit at about 18 inches from the top of the head to the rump. The details on this plush are machine embroidered and appliqued. The toes and fingers are thread sculpted. Purple clothing on this plush are removable-- they can either be slipped on and off, the chest band has hook-and-loop to attach.
PHEW. So this poor little one was plagued with so many interruptions. Continuing to keeping these write ups short for now.
The faux fur was picked out by the commissioner! I feared color matching the colors, but I’m overjoyed that i got close to each, especially after realizing I needed to dye the grey colors. The (what i think is Pewter) darker fur on most of the body was originally going to be matched with Pewter Shannon minky. Decided against it after taking photos and realizing minky kept coming out purple. I ended up spending the evening dyeing the main coat color, but as usual, worth it!
Quite a bit of time was taken to hand sew all the fur accents-- at some point before the fur, I was worried that what i was making was looking nothing like Kel, but just a little more patience and work helped! The claws were also a bit difficult to achieve the claw shape. I ended up going with heatbonded fabric to try to get the “inward” curve on the inside of the claws.
Skipping ahead to the clothing. So I had planned hard on how to add the fur accents and embroidered/appliqued details to the base body. Until I realized the clothing didn’t need to be removable. ^^; Call it pride or hardheadedness but I opted to make the clothing items removable! The only spat I have is the slightly baggy look that Is necessary to pull the clothing off-- mostly on the leggings, but on the bright side, most of the bagginess is on the underside! One other detail is the lack of lining in the clothing. Again opted for this to help with pulling the clothing on and off. The minky would lose some of its elasticity, especially since I had a limited supply of the color and non-stretchy cotton fabric would be the least bulky as a liner but not... stretchy.
In the end, I’m happy to have sweet little Kel completed! I haven’t made a sergal in a loooong while, and it feels good to see my improvement! ^u ^
