Welcome to the hive, buddy! Don't worry, you'll bee here a while!
I was still in a really strong Paper Mario mood and this is an idea I've been kicking around for a couple years but could never get all the pieces together I needed.
Funfact: Buzzaps only appear in Paper Mario on the N64, have a fairly limited number of frames almost all with scrunched in poses, and are a little under 64 x 64 in size. That is TINY. Not ideal reference material XD

something something junji ito but someone beat me to it, dang it
honestly i got really giddy seeing you do something very similar to that for a tf it's a really dun idea, especially combined with the fact that they're paper thin now. these paper mario tfs are great. i completely forgot about the little bee guys, at first glance i thought it was bug fables tf

No need to make it a race! I'm intrigued what your twist on the junji ito thing could be! Yeah being all paper-y does lend itself to some fun ideas! I didn't get far enough in Paper Mario 1 as a kid to see the bees so I first saw them like a year ago or so in a youtube video on the game. Such a shame they never came back.
N64) Didn't like it as a kid with an N64. Haven't gone back to it to form a second opinion but it seems fine.
TTYD) Lovely game. Near perfection. Not a big fan of the remake's altered script. They've cut and censored way too much and hide behind two small things they did include like cowards.
Super) Ehhh... I got soft-locked on it as a kid with a Wii and never finished it but what I did play I mostly enjoyed. The flipping mechanic lost its luster and got annoying quicker than expected.
Sticker Star) Didn't buy, haven't seen anything good from what I looked into
Color Splash) Didn't have a Wii-U. I for one like the white outline look but I can understand the dislike considering the fun things the segmented pieces could do
Origami) Didn't buy. The previews and battle system looked painfully boring.

Now our explorer has a new 2D world to explore. This one is not vulnerable to the control of the Queen of the hive and suddenly feels a blind obedience to his ruler and a tireless desire to work for his hive.
The funny thing is that the worker bees are female, only the drones are male and it is to mate with the Queen. And now our protagonist does not look like a drone. Oh uh.
