This is a fully processed version of a sketch I did several months ago to test out some variations of my interpretation of a design for one of
mojorover's villan characters, for a commission for train involving her in a fight scene with 'Lady Liberty'. In an off-FA screening, two hair colors were presented for evaluation, this is the one that won out. I decided to release this image since it wasn't part of the commission (just something I do when taking on an unfamiliar character), and the pencil version is already in my scraps folder. The 'main' pic will appear once the transaction is completed.
According to the bio written by MojoRover, Betty started out as a cheerleader captain, and hooked up with the army out of a hunger for adventure and excitement. This in turn ignited (heh, heh) a deep fascination with weapons and explosives that eventually got her booted out for "numerous violations of Army regulations", but not before becoming a closet expert in all sorts of explosive mayhem, which only made her more dangerous as she descended into a life of crime. Unlike many other villans in her universe, Boom-Boom possesses no superpowers, however she makes up for that by being impulsive, mentally unstable, manipulative (especially toward the opposite sex), and gets off on blowing things up, which means any crime committed by her and her henchmen will leave smoking ruins in their wake. Lots of it.
During the time I was working on the commission, I had been watching Transformers Animated, and noted that the character 'Slo-Mo' (who appears at about 4:30 into "SUV: Society of Ultimate Villany") sounds a lot like I imagine Boom-Boom speaking--minus the 1930's references, and a good deal crazier. Mojo agreed :)
Technical: In dressing up the sketch, I tried a couple of design elements not normally associated with my art, the first being the 'halo' effect around her outline, to make her stand out from the backdrop. The other is the lineless icon behind her which serves to back up what kind of mayhem you can expect this character to get into (actually, a bomb just seemed like the most logical thing to put there). BB's cheerleader outfit is the 'Coaches Pet' from https://www.3wishes.com , the sneakers are the 'Freestyle' by Reebok, and I have no idea who made the guns and grenades. Speaking of which, if you look closely at her free hand, you'll notice she's already pulled the pin on that grenade she's holding. I'd run if I were...oh, wait.
