Hello :) Sorry about my inactivity, it's been a hard time trying to finish my digital artwork since my PC is still under maintenance.
This is a sketchy doodle of how I imagine vampires, I wanted to get away from the idea of bats and take something more grotesque. They are scavengers and great ambushers, all of them are asexual and once they reach maturity they lay eggs with their sting, vampires eat carcasses due their weakness, they are albino creatures, their skin aches and their eyes hurt when they are exposed to sunlight. Vampires start as larvae, they lay eggs inside their prey impregnating them like some sort of parasitic wasp (the eggs must be warm), the larvae will grow inside their host and feed eating it's flesh, once the larvae is big enough they will leave via any body hole available (if not, they will make a tunnel).
Once they leave the host, they will grow to the next stage, they generate limbs and wings, a bizarre body covered in sticky fluid, their big abdomen isn't well developed. They will start to search for more vampires to start a hive, they feed on carcasses and only hunt if desperate.
When the vampires establish a hive (often inside caverns or abandoned mining tunnels) with their pheromones they choose for a queen and feed the vampire with a goo made out from their salivary glands, the vampire chosen as queen will mutate and grow larger, it's abdomen will enlarge being even larger than it's body, the queen will always stay in a special room protected by cobwebs they made out from their saliva, the queen starts producing hundreds of eggs inside her abdomen, getting swollen and bigger, as a queen it can control every vampire at its hive via its powerful pheromones, it commands for food and the vampires will bring living or dead animals to feed. The queen will eat the carcasses and lay its eggs inside the living ones.
It's common for the living animals to die when a queen lay its eggs inside due the amount, sometimes bursting them, if this happens the queen will make its own heat to keep the eggs warm, when the massive amount of eggs hatch they grow as common vampires under the control of its queen. (The vampires under the control of their queen stop producing eggs.)
The reason vampires keep their abdomen after being ruled by a queen is to the fact that the queen can die and then another vampire should replace her, also there are vampires that won't be part of hives and live against their nature (rare), they reproduce freely and avoid danger due their vulnerability.
Vampires can be used as a mount if they've been trained since their first mutation after the larvae stage, they must be separated from a vampire community and their pheromones must be blocked with special ointments, their abdomen can be cut off if it starts to grow (to avoid their impregnation nature).
