Warbred, despite being insectoid-like aliens created and then selectively bred by a powerful King, have a surprising convergent trait with mammals! They feed milk, or a substance like it, to their nymphs for their first years of life.

The fact that they feed milk to their young is where similarities end, however; because the composition, how it's produced, where it's produced and how nymphs feed is markedly different.

Mammals have teats and mammary glands, while Warbred have something similar to a brood pouch in their belly area. Mammalian babies feed by suckling, while Warbred nymphs nuzzle and lick at the opening of the milk pouch, causing muscle contractions to push the milk out where the nymph can lap it up. The nymph will often knead all four of their little paws against their dam's swollen milk pouches to increase milk production, like kittens!

The fuzzy little mane on the Warbred nymph is incredibly soft. Obligatory milk-covered toe beans and blep!

By the nymph:
Hatchlings are messy eaters! They will double their size within two weeks, open their eyes, and start wobbling about, exploring and playing. A Warbred nymph can live entirely on their dam’s milk for up to 2 years. While they are capable of eating other stuff, they do significantly better with at least two weeks on milk before being fed normal food.


Notes by the milk:
Slightly thicker than mammalian milk. Very different chemical composition despite some similarities. Has a faint yellowish/orangish color to it. Lower fat content, high in protein. Lots of vitamins and minerals, collagen, calcium and other stuff to help strengthen bones and chitin.

The taste is a bit strong, but not unpleasant. Slightly savory, with a faint sweet aftertaste.

Plating separates to reveal the opening to the milk pouch. Nuzzling and licking by the nymph will stimulate muscle contractions that pushes the milk out so the nymph can lap it up.
