And now for something completely different and totes unrelated to the comic at hand, I'm sure...
You guys have no idea how long I wanted to make these next couple of pages. I can't explain why, but I just really love the idea of it. Mind you, it's a lot funnier in my head than both it's meant to be and how I actually drew it. I didn't quite want to go full "adult" so, I guess you're gonna have to think of this as a completely ordinary small goods store.
Just don't ask how he got to the store.

Yep. Though they're referred to as "ferals" over "animals" since... technically, we're all animals.... and sadly... um, there was a point in Calypsian history where (shall we say) there was no distinction (last paragraph). outside of legality. Mind you, "Furries" are still classified as "humans", but as a sub-category. Also, normal looking humans still exist, given rare in this particular story, but still. Also while I didn't base it on this, it's a great explanation of those particular other questions one might have.
That would have been a good line....Eh, I'm saving it for later.

Ouch. I've seen settings where anthros we're treated as second class in that sense. How far apart is that time from this comic?
On a tangential note, since you've said "furry" rather than "anthro" in some cases, are you one of the people that makes a distinction?
Best as I've seen it, the idea is that (conceptually rather than necessarily by canonical origin) furries are basically humans given animal traits that are largely aesthetic while anthros are animals given human traits.

Not quite sure myself. I had never quite written down the actual timeline and even if I had... let's just say that the end of that particular story revealed that within 20 years, such laws were revoked and those responsible were facing trials.... So if I had a guess.... How long ago was WWII for us?Probably about 80 years longer than that. So don't worry, there are no "anthro-ferals" by the time this comic takes place. Well, no more than in the real world, if you catch my drift.
I don't personally make a distinction between the two. Honestly, I just use whichever of the two feels right at the time (or pops in my head first at least). However, for the Calypsia Universe it is very specifically "Furry". Not very creative, but I wasn't trying to be. Technically "Scalies" and "Avians" exist too, but they're all still collectively called "Furries" as the name just stuck. Just like with the real fandom. You'd say "anthro" only in the context of "Anthropomorphism". Personally, I will NOT be drawing... "insects" at any point... However, I cannot deny that they also can exist. Just not anywhere near me. (Don't know why that type of "furry" creeps me out. Mind you, fursuiters are fine, but the idea a real one walking around in Calypsia. *shutters*)
Your explanation makes sense too. If you're adding animal traits as opposed to adding human traits. It's a nice spectrum.

So, roughly speaking about 150-160 years-ish? And by "anthro-ferals" you mean anthros turned feral? Though in a sort of similar idea, I kind of have the notion that there was a sort of "review" of whether Ridley would legally count as a person when he was a young kid, though I don't often refer to that backstory
Me, personally, I kind of separate anthros as the characters and furries as the people who participate in the fandom. As to insect furries, I guess it's a matter of familiarity. We, as humans, can relate most closely with vertebrates than invertebrates and even within that, most of us can relate to mammals more easily than with birds or reptiles. Insects are very different, so it's harder to anthropomorphize them without them seeming very off.

Tricky: It is not Pink. It's Magenta! Pink has yellow in it. But this color is 100% magenta!
Rusty: Pretty sure it's pink.
Tricky: It's not pink, "ma gen ta".
(LOL Sorry, I couldn't resist the Kamen Rider Decade joke/reference. You pull it off better.)

Technically it's not, but (just like power rangers) they essentially reboot it every year. (Mind you,"Kamen Rider" in japan is different that "Masked Rider" that we got in the states.) However, both Decade and Zi-O were "Anniversary Riders". Sort of like what "Super MegaForce" was supposed to be for us in the US.
.... Dangit! I'm geeking again. Sorry bout that.

Absolutely, as any good pet should. Although my Moonshine (real cat) is not a good pet at all. Kept taking it off... I mean she's chipped and registered, but it still worries me. Constantly flashing the neighbors and all that.
Eh, the pink one's too sparkly for his master's taste.
