Why is she sad? I remember Kathy once beat up her grandpa when she found out that she was royalty through him, so why was she upset then and now? Is it be a her previous life was unsatisfactory and therefore blamed her grandfather for denying her a better life?

Kathy's conflicted. Finding out she could have lived in a palace but her grandfather ran away from his responsibilities angered her. Then her rational mind kicked in and she realized she really didn't want to be royal. THEN she was told, "Tough, you're the Heir of Rackenroon, let's get going."

Now, she wishes that Songween had been closer to her rebellious son, and that they could have been a proper family. Songween has had over fifty years to reflect on that very idea, and has come to the understanding that everything happens for a reason. You can't change the past, it is what it is, but what you make of it going forward is up to you.

Will we see Fisi and Penny fight again? I remember their first meeting was a brawl between the two. Also, wasn't Fisi disrespecting the chain of command since Penny outranks her?

I'm not sure. But Fisi far and away outranks Penny socially. Fisi was the head of Songween's bodyguard, and her assassin. Fisi's mother was Songween's Generalissima. Fisi is the Countess of Clan Grrsn.

Penny was born a low-ranking hyena who worked her way up through the Brigade by being a badass fighter. Songween's son Reggie prevailed upon her to kill the mobster who was after him when Reggie skipped out on a large loan. Then Reggie got Penny drunk and got her pregnant, so they got married. Soon they found out they had nothing in common but their son. Penny stayed with Reggie both because her son could be recognized as being in Songween's bloodline, and to keep Reggie out of further trouble. Penny got promoted several times by a grateful Songween, although everyone was pretending that Reggie-the-prince had been killed, and that Penthesilia was married to a musician she met at a USO show.

When Fisi's husband helped give Penny some of her advanced prosthetics, her daughter met and fell in love with Penny's son Arfur. Because Reggie was pretending to not be a Prince but just a commoner, Penny then had to fight Fisi to win the right for her son to marry the daughter of a Countess. Their duel was pretty much ritualized because they both knew that Arfur and Teena would elope if they didn't allow them to marry, and that would spoil the succession. Fisi and Penny both knew who Reggie really was, but they never told Arf or Teena.

Penny and Fisi don't particularly like each other, because they both think they should be the alpha of the clan. It's a complicated relationship--Penny is the commander of the Hyenasport Brigade, while Fisi is, technically, "retired." But Fisi is of noble blood and socially outranks Penny. Penny's son joined Fisi's family, but he brings the royal Rackenroon bloodline to the table.

I meant when they were dining on the earlier chapters and they got into a fight, lol.
