Okay so there's this complicated as fuck webcomic called Homestuck at http://www.mspaintadventures.com/ about these kids who play a reality-altering videogame and at the same time receive help and trouble from an alien species called a troll (which is what the gray guy is), since they already finished their version of the game. The troll species feels love and hate with the same compassion, so there can be a couple bonded by hate as well as love. The troll boy in the pic hates John (the boy in the foreground) like that, and the hate bond is signified by a spade.
