I actually like absurd hair colors. Especially Blue.
The thing about them is that they use up points, if I put all my "crazy look" points into hair, I can't really over do it with the outfit. If I try, my mental character creator won't let me finish it until I tone something down. I feel like I should treat this to some textures via layering, but I really wanted to do something in mostly flat colors.
It's still not a very subtle look.

Yeah, I have a points system for characters.
It's out of 100.0 to allow for the most granularity between qualities without getting out of hand. I tried the system with 1000.0 but it just got ridiculous.
It's sort of complicated though. Some qualities, if they're applied in combination with others, can actually gain a net combo score of negative points. I'd rather not explain it in detail, but it's all very well thought out and complete. The ultimate way to design by far, is by the numbers. They never lie.
I'm actually surprised no one has tried to describe aesthetic choices using a value system, it definitely trumps all the philosophical writings on art to date.

I think most people don't like using a points system on artwork because they think it demeans the overall aesthetic value. But artwork needs to be created before it can be given meaning, and I can see your points system as a good way to design artwork without going overboard on certain stylistic elements.
