This is a commissioned piece for a friend. He's going to have me make several images from the Book of Revelation and from Daniel's prophecies. He was kind enough to let me start with a sure-fire favorite, the Great Dragon - seven heads, ten horns, iron teeth, bright scarlet scales. The rest of the details he left up to me, so I jazzed it up a bit with some yellows and blues.
This was a challenging piece. Coordinating heads, horns, scales, wings, tail, fins and frills... That took some trial and error, and a lot of sketching to figure out how to anchor the heads to the dragon's chest without it looking completely silly. I had been worried about the smaller heads getting lost in all the detail, but with color I was able to bring them out so that they're distinct.

Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads. Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born.
