The True Laughter.
After they both left the Ice cream shop, Rocky wanted to head to a video game store next, so he could buy a new physical copy game to play during his sleepover at Xoray's place for the weekend. Rocky suggested heading to the Crystal Mall, as it is known to be one of the best and biggest shopping centers in the region, and because Rocky hadn't had the chance to check out the popular mall yet since he moved to Crystal Paw City with his faithful butler, Godfrey Penny.
The Crystal Mall is home to a number of districts, such as: the Fashion District, the Market, the Restaurants, the Arcades, the Cinema, the Gardens, the Sports Complex, the Electra District, and the Grand Plaza, which includes a 6-star Hotel.
The Crystal Mall features more than 1000 different international and national-based stores and restaurants, making it a perfect place for purchasing all kinds of personal needs.
"You know, we can just purchase any game digitally and download it," said Xoray.
"True. But I'd rather not waste time waiting for the download to complete. Every second counts," Rocky replied as they entered the mall.
It was the last day of the week, so the mall was quite crowded with various shoppers and people just wanting to hang out.
Xoray watched as Rocky looked around in awe. "I can tell this is your first time here," he spoke.
"Yeah," Rocky replied. "This mall is great! It would've been even greater for a shopaholic, which I'm not. Do you come here often?"
"Aaaa—Not really. I sometimes come here for quick clothes shopping or to watch a movie at the Grand Cinema with my un...cle..." Xoray went quiet as he suddenly began to remember the good old times he had spent with his late uncle Sion. He remembered planning to invite his uncle to watch the Demolition Furry movie that was recently released, but couldn't due to the tragic airplane incident that took his beloved uncle's life. Without thinking, Xoray slowly tilted his head down and grabbed his golden *XP* necklace tightly to his chest.
The sudden quietness made the White Tiger concerned, noticing how Xoray was holding the necklace so closely. Rocky already knew how important that necklace was to Xoray, as it was his last special gift from his late uncle for his 26th Birthday. Rocky could feel Xoray's pain and knew his best friend must have had many cherished memories in this mall with his late uncle.
tuk Xoray snapped back to the present, realizing he had been holding the necklace tightly. He pushed the negative thoughts away, determined not to worry Rocky again.
Rocky could tell that Xoray was trying his very best to hide his true feelings from him. “Hey…are you—”
“I’m fine,” Xoray interrupted. "I was just remembering how much the mall has changed since the last time I came here two years ago," Xoray said, smiling at Rocky.
Rocky was very concerned, but he had to believe in his best friend's words, at least for now. A smile had appeared on his face. "Alright then," he said happily, removing his paw from Xoray's shoulder, "let's go buy us a new game for our sleepover plan. Take me to a shop that sells video games, my dear pal Xoray." Rocky stepped aside, closed his eyes as he bowed and stretched his left arm forward to let Xoray take the lead. But it only took him a few seconds for his eyes to re-open as he stared back while still bowing at his best friend, who was looking kind of confused and lost for words.
"Aaaahhh... I... ahhh... eh-hehe..." Xoray just giggled awkwardly, tapping his golden necklace gently and repeatedly with his right index finger. The tapping on the necklace was another habit of his when he faces indecision situations, or when he needs to think of something really quick.
Rocky slowly turned and stood straight while facing Xoray. "Ummm... tell me that you know where to go," he said.
Xoray didn't know what to say, so he remained quiet. An embarrassed smile was visible on him.
The White Tiger stood quietly still as he waited, and waited a bit more. "...Do...you know where we are, at least?" He asked another question when no words came out of his best friend's mouth.
The Panther was now avoiding eye contact by tilting his head downward after biting his lower lip as he tried to hide his embarrassment. He was obviously failing to do so when his eyeballs gazed upward and witnessed the disappointment mixed with shock expression on the white Tiger's face before looking away again.
Rocky's jaw dropped when the disbelief just hit him. "Are. You. Kidding me!!?" He suddenly boomed. "Are you saying that we have to search for a certain shop in this humongous mall!?" He went on.
"In my defense: I did say that I don't come here often," Xoray quickly said, standing straight again.
"T-T-Then...where do you usually buy a new game for yourself?"
"Nowadays...mostly online... Digital..."
"Wh-What about... New consoles?... Accessories?... Hardware?... Limited editions?..."
"Online...shipping... Eh-heehee..." Xoray just giggled from the embarrassment as he answered.
Rocky just slapped on his headband with his left paw in frustration. "Now I see why you suggested to purchase a game digitally," he said, looking around his surroundings before facing his best friend again, "we literally might have to spend hours, if not an entire day, to be able to find a ‘specific’ shop that we need to go to... Talk about an absolute time waster…" Rocky made a long, loud sigh, leaned forward, and covered his entire face on Xoray's chest. He was making what sounded like muffled whining sounds on the Panther's chest.
"I'm sorry, Rocky," Xoray felt guilty for disappointing his best friend. He was about to pat Rocky's head, but he didn't want to make it awkward for them. He needed to help his best friend, somehow. So he began to look around him. "I guess... we could ask for directions..." He paused his motions when his feline eyes just spotted something in the not-so-distant distance on his left. "Huh... that's new," he blurted and tapped gently twice on Rocky's left shoulder.
"Hmm?—Wha?" Rocky, still covering his face on Xoray's chest, just looked up, then turned his gaze to the left to look toward the thing that caught his best friend's attention. "Wait..." He pointed before he asked, "Does that say... 'map'?"
They both walked towards a huge tablet device that shows a huge QR code and a reading that says: "Free Crystal Mall Map App".
"What's this?... Are angels smiling at us today?" Rocky exclaimed excitedly.
Xoray scanned the QR code with his smartphone and downloaded the app. His index finger started typing the keywords “video game” on the search bar and then tapped on the search button. "Hmm, All-BluStars Zone. They have everything related to gaming and movies, as well. Perfect!" He tapped on the “Start” button and the app began to show him the directions.
Rocky peeked and was about to jump from joy when the app started to point the location of the shop on Xoray's smartphone. "See, Xoray?... My whining had saved us from a crisis once again. Nee-hee-hee!" He joked, sticking his tongue out, did a V gesture with his index and middle fingers, and winked at his best friend.
"To be honest, I'm starting to believe that myself. Maybe I should refer to you as the Master of ‘Luck’ instead of the Master of ‘Martial Arts’."
"HAAH! It'd be totally Paw-some to fight all the bad lucks with my Martial Arts skills! Of course, I'm gonna need you to be on my side, as my sidekick."
"Me?" Xoray was stunned.
"Yeah! You can lure the bad lucks towards us and I'll do the fighting part." Rocky just did his not-so-serious Martial Arts move.
"Geez—thanks—Hee-hee-hee." Xoray gave Rocky an encouraging, bright smile while showing his teeth with his eyes closed.
Rocky couldn't help but smile from what he was seeing. That smile on Xoray's face would always make him blush and make his heart beat fast. He's so cute when he smiles like that, He thought to himself.
They continued chatting casually as they walked towards their destination. They couldn't help but admire the latest fashion trends as they passed through the Fashion District. The White Tiger was impressed by the diverse array of martial arts gear in each store of the Sports District.
As they reached the Restaurant District, Xoray checked his smartphone. "We need to keep walking for 5 more minutes," he announced, "we'll reach the All-BluStars Zone after passing through the Restaurant Distr—mph!."
Suddenly, Rocky covered Xoray's mouth with his white paw, interrupting him. "Duuuuuuude!" Rocky removed his paw and pulled Xoray closer, hugging him from the side. "Look at that!" He extended his free arm, pointing with his index finger.
Xoray followed Rocky's gaze. "Are you pointing at K&Ks?" he asked.
Rocky nodded enthusiastically, his eyes gleaming. "Burgers!" he said, his voice filled with excitement.
"Burgers? You want to eat? Now? I thought we were in a rush," Xoray said, but before he could finish, Rocky grabbed him by the shoulders and looked him directly in the eye.
"I—never—in my life—ate a burger before—ever!" Rocky elaborated, his tail wagging behind him. "I always wanted to try one from K&Ks. I heard their burgers are something else."
Xoray considered the request, not feeling particularly hungry after his recent ice cream indulgence.
"Can we get some burgers... pretty please?" Rocky begged, his eyes widening in a cute, pleading expression.
Xoray's feline eyes widened as he recognized Rocky's "special" begging technique. "Oh no!... Don't do it!... Not that!" he protested, but it was too late. Rocky's facial expression had transformed into an irresistibly adorable, sad cat-like look. Xoray's heart melted at the sight. "Awwwwww~" he cooed, unable to resist. "I can't... you're making my heart melt with that look. Okay! I'll get us some burgers," he said lovingly.
Rocky's expression shifted to a proud, devilish grin. "Your soul is so pure, my dear bro," he said, his grin softening into an honest smile. "That's why I like you so much."
"Pure?... I guess," Xoray whispered, sadness tingeing his tone. The mention of the word “Pure” had made him recall Taniyn, the Blue Dragon with whom he had his first intimate experience when he was 18 years old. No, he shouldn't dwell on the past. He forced himself to push those memories away, lest the sadness overwhelm him, and focused his attention back on Rocky.
"Come on, XP," Rocky began, "let's order some food and eat right now!"
"Huh? Wait, I thought we were going to order the burgers to-go," Xoray said, surprised.
Rocky was already standing at the counter of the restaurant, excitedly staring at the digital menu boards like a happy child.
"—to take away," Xoray sighed. "Hehe, and here I thought we were in a rush." The Panther smiled and went to stand next to his best friend to help him decide what to order.
After they had placed and paid for their orders, Rocky took the fresh juices and rushed ahead to reserve an empty table while Xoray waited for their food.
Moments later, the food had arrived, and Xoray gathered the meals and searched for his best friend. "XP! Over here!" Rocky's familiar voice called out, and the Panther couldn't help but laugh softly as he saw the White Tiger waving at him excitedly with both arms. "There you go, one XL beef burger with large fries for you, and one regular cheeseburger for me," Xoray said, placing the meals on the table and sitting across from Rocky.
"My hero," said Rocky, "you deserve a reward for bringing me food." He gave Xoray a cup of fresh juice.
"Ah, thanks. Something to ‘refresh’ my mind," Xoray joked. They both laughed together.
Rocky unwrapped his burger and began to inspect it closely, leaning in just an inch away from his face.
Confusion started to form on the Panther's face as he drank the orange juice through the straw, his left eyebrow raised higher than the right one as he watched the White Tiger leaning in and sniffing the burger multiple times.
"ALRIGHT!" Rocky quickly sat upright. "In order not to waste any more time, I'm going to devour this burger in one bite!" He announced.
"*choke*—*cough*—*cough*—WHAT!!?" Xoray cried.
"*Shhhhhh*—hush now. I need to be considerate and muster up my fighting spirit. Rocky brought his paws together, closed his eyes, and began to meditate.
"Bro—you can't!—That's an XL burger and—"
"*Shhhhhh*—don't underestimate the Master of Martial Arts." Rocky took a deep, long breath. “*exhale*—oh, ancestors, warriors from the ancient past, give me the strength to get through my obstacles," he mumbled to himself.
The atmosphere around the table had become suddenly tense. Xoray's fur began to stand on end as he felt a weird aura of seriousness emanating from Rocky. The tension had Xoray sitting on the edge of his chair, taking big gulps of his juice without realizing it, staring unblinkingly at Rocky, anticipating something amazing.
With a very slow motion, the White Tiger had finally opened his eyes and grabbed the XL burger with both paws. "Aaaaaaah..." He managed to fit half of the burger into his widely opened mouth. But as Xoray expected, the XL burger did not fit Rocky's mouth. "!—HUH!?" Rocky snapped out of his “seriousness aura state” when he realized that his burger suddenly felt lighter as it fell apart in his paws.
"*pfffff*—Kh-kheeeheeeheee!" Xoray burst out laughing at what he just witnessed. "Y-y-you—j-just—heehee—scared your beef—a-away—Bah-haahaahaahaa!" He couldn't help but laugh more.
At first, Rocky felt upset about what had happened to his burger, but the way his best friend started to laugh had made him feel very happy and even glad, because for the very first time, he had never seen Xoray laugh that hard. It was something Rocky had been trying to do in order to make Xoray feel better about himself.

It’s not that simple. They both are dealing with their tragic past. Especially Xoray, who is trying his hardest to stay mentally strong after his recent lost of his beloved uncle, and also because he couldn’t feel his Glowing powers within him, but he’s trying his best to overcome his sadness for Rocky’s sake.
As for Rocky, he just afraid of getting rejected and lose his very first, true best-friend forever if he expressed his true love feeling towards Xoray.
