A composition for Oboe, Clarinet, and Harp (or Piano) in its MIDI reproduction.
When one sleeps and dreams, often times dreams don't make sense. You are in some undefined location doing some undefined task and sometimes do not even question why you do so. Scenes from Sleep is a somewhat impressionistic portrayal of dreams as they occur. I started this out but due to other projects I have not been able to complete this just yet, and only have the first movement completed.
In this first movement, you are in a valley, mostly grasslands, large mountains on a beautiful afternoon, as you dance a waltz, with someone you maybe do not even know, but you do not question what is happening, you just enjoy the waltz and go with the music. Just going with it... just going with it...

oddly enough, i always know exactly where i am in my dreams. it is not in this universe. a particular location there may have a parallel here, or it may not. and i usually know my intentions too, they they may be frustrated by entirely different mechanisms then do so here. the physics works differently and that's how i know its a different universe. but everything does work, clocks, mirrors, books, all the things so many people seem to insist don't. so do ALL of the senses.
and there's nothing floaty or nebulous either, though there is a sense of calm and not having to worry about anything.

This piece certainly is very dreamlike. I think the Harp really adds something to this, giving it almost a celestial feel, as if one were walking on clouds and watching vistas of air and water and color rise and fall like wisps or waterfalls. It's very beautiful and does feel like a brief episode from a nighttime slumber.
