The Post thalmvaric period of the Dragonscape (20,000PA onwards) is a practically infinitely vast place. With any given expanse of planar often being made up of thousands of Planar that range between hundreds to sometimes hundreds of millions of square miles. With many of these coming to be inhabited by hundreds or thousands of different cultures of drekir, ormer, and mavõtur. So for the average interplanar trader or traveler, its hard to find out what you may be landing onto unless you have already familiarized yourself with a region!
This particularly guy is from the Dalat expanse, a vast series of planar made up of the old Martian, Venus, and Mercury alongside millons of miles of Õndemic planar. It's a varied expanse of planar filled with vast deserts, tepid salt jungles, inhospitable volcanic wastes. But life in many of these planar is defined by the sources of water that build small oasis. Be they frozen underground lakes of ice to dense jungles fed by steaming volcanic springs.
Across this expanse there are easily hundreds if not thousands of tribes, bands, chiefdoms, amongst a few larger city states hidden away.
So interplanar travelers and traders, be they regular visitors or otherwise, might be at a risk of banditry. Either from traveling Pirates hiding out in the deserts and jungles or local bandit dens traveling their local plana living off of banditing, with or without the support of other local groups. Moreover your average interplanar visit is gonna involve at least some degree of walking across the landscapes!
So some interplanar travelers getting held up, robbed, attacked or even kidnapped by some local bandits or pirates, particularly in the Dalat expanse, is not an unreasonable concern. But for each Bandit or Pirate, there are plenty more locals who quite like having visitors come in for trade and so in many of the Dalatãon planar you would likely find some sort of local tribal militia or part time mercenaries for hire to help protect both local and interplanar travelers from bandits.
for a price, uh probably water. Particularly in the desert regions! fresh water is at a premium in these spaces and in many communities of this expanse, water is currency! So much so to where local fighters will hire out as mercenaries for freshwater. Though don't be surprised if a local den of hired warriors also ask for other trade goods in addition to water... it is a trade after all and its your cost of safety or goods.
This guy is in the typical garb of the nomadic Matefir silk cultivators of at least one tribe of one plana. Tanned leather and hide from a variety of the large reptiles, finely woven and colored cloths of the Metefir, whoms caves they protect so as to cultivate the fine cloth of the Metefir silk, and with an artifice goggle to help them see through the whipping sands and dark nights of the open landscapes.
For the "fighting" part they are armed with a locally fabricated Aether musket or "Dachilán" energized aether stored in a sealed glass container is broken simply by a percussive strike and a nail pressed into a touchhole, Firing a projectile.
Though while the musket is straightforward, there may be a wide array of hightech projectiles. From razorwiredbolas that unfurl in flight, wrapping into and cutting opponents to bunker busting armor shots to blow up a heavily armored pirate from the inside out. Or even simply self stabilizing slugs for longer ranged shots. Along with an array of more average projectiles such as shot, balls, flechettes, etc.
So, at least by the average standards of the post thalmvar, a pretty formidable mercenary!
Is 200k Datrams of water that big of an ask when you get this fella covering you and your caravan through the rolling red of their Dalatãon plana?

I like the idea that the fabric of space is cracked in such a way(or is implied to be at the very least) that other planets were caught in the mix as well. Makes me wonder about the technological advancement before the event happened… were they(humans) already settled on mars, Venus, and mercury? We’re they not but those planets got caught up in the cataclysmic event and scientists figured out where these chunks of lands came from? How is Hawaii safe from all this if entire planets got thrown into the mixed bag! It’s an extremely intriguing universe you’ve created here even without the transformation stuff. Me for instance have had ideas about a tv show involving people being transported back to the past or a video game series based off of past(prehistoric) gameplay and future gameplay. But whenever you swap to the past you character turns into a dinosaur or other prehistoric creature. But like your character still has their faculty’s in the past but there’s for example survival gameplay as a dinosaur in the past while trying to find the location to warp back into the present to get where you need to go. Or at the very least a a show based around this idea… it could be something only select humans are able to do maybe because of an experiment that displaced them from time but the present day people hire these select few to travel through the past to maybe do espionage missions in the present. Because they can warp in and out of the past from different locations they could warp into the past travel to where a building or place that they are hired to infiltrate is and warp back to the future! But the dinosaur gameplay would be the main gameplay because they’d be wanted in the present day. And by doing these jobs for the client which could be a government official this government official could be promising if they do these jobs for em he would make some moves to make them not wanted in the present meaning they could live as humans per mantle again or something. Obviously the official would betray them! And then some extra time warp shenanigans would make them a dinosaur in the present whenever they wished and they just go on a destruction spree to finish of the first story. Hinting at a sequel where the second part would be the ability to swap back and forth at will in the present day and they be stealth mode in human form and then there’s just destruction mission to take on the people who betrayed the Main character. I’ve had an idea like this for a while now. And I have no way to ever make it possible. But I think it’s fun to think about!
So the Post Thalmvaric Era (20kPA and indefinitely into the future after that point) was more or less kicked off by the attempt of a coalition of more fascistic draconic societies to drive humanity into extinction via the complete breaking of the Steiron. While they technically succeeded it also led to a massive collapse of society in general and a level of environmental collapse in the Earthen Planar (The Cedun expanse) that made said planar uninhabitable for 2000 years.
Pretty much all the planets became Planar or, flat expanses of land that often have the sheer size of planets or, at least, continents and subcontinents that drift through the Void, which itself is not a vacuum (always, there are pockets that have air and pockets that don't it varies). The universe, rather than being a series of solar systems and galaxies is a series of planar expanses surrounding various heat and air sources. Often they have a LOT more land mass than any of our solar systems in each expanse and many systems are made of several expanses.
But there were many alien species affected, none in our initial solar system but there are at least two other known species, being the hive minded Pratat antfolks and the metal eating Rumagond mech builders, amongst others who were caught in the total consumption of our reality by that of Õndem.
And nifty idea!
