Not a fan of horror movies in general, so I can't say I've heard the original song, but the percussive nature of this with the plucked instrument beneath builds tension pretty nice. MIDI has a strange clarity that sets it apart from other methods of song creation, almost a midpoint between 8bit and true orchestral depending on the samples.
