[ILLUSTRATION] How Could We Organize In The Furry Fandom?
This was for a talk Sasha and I gave in 2023, which became the foundation of a much bigger community effort and support network that continues to grow to this day!

Sorry, but I did not ask about, or mention, non-furry audiences...
I mean to ask if you have any plans to make the talk available to a furry audience, who does not attend conventions. I can imagine the convention-specific parts of the talk may be less relevant, but surely if the talk is about what the fandom can offer the individual, that isn't limited to convention center attendance. I see that you've basically answered this question, under other comments, so I'll take my answer there. Thank you!

This talk changes significantly each time we give it. We recorded the our last version of it when given at Eurofurence, but we may have many more iterations until we're ready to share it.
Currently planning on taking the whole thing and splitting it up into three more contained topics.

I'm grateful to hear that. I think South Africa's water management, as well as their healthcare system being that intense hybrid of public and private are just two of many things I'd love more furries to know about. Maybe you won't be in as idle a posture as you expect!
Sounds cool, i hope you provide a summary here after. I think broaching the topics of what more can the fandom offer than escapism . especially as the fandom garners more of a wider audience as of late with major influencers and news outlets bring it into the public eye more often, and with the looming threat of technology outsourcing creative processes its something that should be talked about more.
We won't publish a summary of it for some time, since it's still in an iterative process. That said, the majority of discussions on the topic we tend to have either in my streams or on my Discord, when it's not at a convention table.
I'm glad these things are already relevant to your interests!

I once tried to organize an American Furry Association. It was a failure. A couple things you need to keep in mind: 1) furries don't WANT to organize; they don't want to feel like they are being supervised by some administrative body; 2) Pretty much any time you set up a group of furries, you're going to get drama, egos, and infighting; 3) furries don't want to organize (bears repeating). Good luck to you.
Hi there. Well, that is a very long story. I got as far as getting a board together and had a logo LOL, but I had more and more resistance from furries who just thought it was a bad idea and fodder for accusations of popufurs and gatekeepers trying to dictate to others how they should behave and what was allowed. If you go on to create some kind of furry organization, what you will end up doing is splitting apart the fandom even more than it is now: some furries will want to join and others will either feel left out or want to actively denounce and destroy you. But, you don't need to listen to me. Do what you wish, but don't say I didn't warn you.
Sure. A couple things: 1) Preserve the history of the fandom (this is happening with a number of books and archives), 2) Maintain a registry of original fursonas (as a way of preserving your identity and preventing fursona ID theft; 3) As a resource to new furries and the media as to what furry is and what it is not (this is problematic); 4) To provide a fun sense of belonging to members (issuing membership cards; producing a newsletter; maintaining a website; 5) Maintain a library of books and videos about the fandom; 6) Have a Public Relations department to, again, deal with the media; 7) Work with the Furry Convention Leadership Roundtable to brainstorm ways to improve furcon experiences; 8) Maintain a membership database that is accessible to members so they can find local furries; also possibly a furmeet/party/con database; 9) This was to be a US-based association, but we would have reached out to fandoms in the UK, Europe, Asia and elsewhere. As for means, there would be small membership dues to help pay for things such as newsletters, websites. Accountability: file as a nonprofit.
Nah, it won't work. For a lot of furries, "isolated antisocial jerks fapping to animal cartoon porn" is really all they will ever see themselves and each other as. I know, it's sad, but I've made peace with the squandered potential of furry and moved on. You're going to have to overcome a sheer vertical cliff of fire of poor-self-image, intense self-loathing, and abysmal self-esteem BEFORE you tackle the escapism issue. I mean, would you want to walk into a whorehouse and announce the Johns therein as bonded brothers? They're going to be so dismissive, "yeah, right", and then they're going to organize, yes, for the first and only time — just to plot how best to undo, smear, and burn the pitiable fools seeking to intervene on behalf of their lost incorrigible souls the fastest so they can get back to their disparate opiating vices. I know I'm out! I wish you the best of luck!
This comment is weird and irrelevant. It's not responding to reality so much as portraying a snide antihero. It just feels so boring, unimaginative, and unhelpful.
Being that cynical sounds like it would be a real drain on your life, let alone any building I've already had the good fortune to witness firsthand. I agree, it's probably for the best that you see yourself out of these kinds of efforts.
