I'm starting to wonder if it's not just a slight outline of a head, located about where the "M" in the watermark text is?
(Two leafs in front of tree bark, the upper being the eye, the lower part of the mouth. To the right, the rock forms a kind of muzzle. To the left, rocks and twigs might be back of head and ears.)
