So... What if Dogry's subrace of Magma Dragon was upgraded, just a little bit? I mean, it's not like I wasn't trying to build up to a slight lineage change a while ago.
While I did have the Blast Throats as an idea floating around in my head for quite a while I don't know how many times I've shown off their abilities. But after seeing a friend play as a Dracthyr on World of Warcraft when they launched, their excessively powerful dragon breaths reminded me that I should probably start drawing this stuff more.
So, the one rather important thing about a Blast Throat Magma Dragon is that they have neck pouches which contain specialized glands that will take the most flammable substances the creature eats and concentrate it into explosive globules that are finished with a fragile shell. Impacts that crack them inwards begins the detonation of these uniquely-named "Hell Shells", which results in instantly-immolating explosions which are doubly lethal with the launching of high-velocity debris.
Blast Throat Magma Dragons had actually inspired the soldiers of Rattanica to develop their own shotguns back in the day. They tried to push their mileage with Flak Cannons as far as they could go, but they were of little effect against the scales of the Magma Dragons and often found their weapons at the center of a Hell Shell explosion, rendering them broken forever at best and half-melted into the anchoring platform at worst.
Of course, while all Magma Dragons are hard to take down, the unique weakness of the Blast Throats are opportunities to prematurely detonate the shells while they're still in the dragon's neck. If they're not prepared, they fall victim to their own natural weapon. But many react by leaving their jaws open so as not to accidentally contain the blast. And a rare few will swallow the shells with rather predictable results from containing the explosion.
Dog has to train to be able to withstand his own Hell Shells, and they're not quite as well-developed as a True Magma Dragon's without using some of his magic on it. Still, this is a pretty amazing upgrade for him from a base Spade-Tipped Magma Dragon. He still has that spade-tipped tail, by the way.
