Not gonna lie, hitting the pandemic right as the first book was wrapping up really hit me hard with writers' block and I've been struggling to get ANY kind of writing done for the past several years. That being said, I have been considering rebooting the story. We've had three generations of Pokemon come out since SotF premiered, and I just feel like I could do better. We'll see how things go though.
Instead of rewriting it, maybe change the focus? Different protagonists in different localization but everything takes place in the same universe. So through the story, you can refer to the original story, and if you decide you can reintegrate the original characters as part of the new story's protagonist.
Either way, is your choice, writing has its highs and lows, don't force yourself to work on something that doesn't make you happy.
So... Maybe you can start slow, write a one-shot, something small and isolated from everything else so you don't have to worry about continuity.
