Yeah it was a common feature for animated characters. Cartoon male characters always have tricky hair to draw so many designs look similar. It's hard to make it short and still distinct. Whereas with a female character you can have a lot more variety in the hair style. Generally speaking. Exceptions always apply.
I don’t think I saw the TV edited version before, since the version I saw is 51 minutes long. One of the things I despised about the Rankin Bass version is how the adults were mean to Rudy, not just his dad, but Comet and Clarice’s father too. I can understand his peers being mean, but the adults? That’s just very mean. Thankfully, the Goodtimes version fixes this by having Arrow being the main peer who makes fun of Rudolph.(even if he’s very mean, and one of my most despised characters.)
Yeah, that is true. And the modern edited TV version is just atrocious. They edit out the "Misfit" song which I know many would argue is the best song of the entire special. The whole thing is just trimmed to hell and it's embarrassing. That's why I'm very happy to own all the versions of Rudolph on DVD/blu-ray.
