It's meant as Johnson and Churchill's black dog - that is, depression - but for me (and perhaps for a few others) that's connected to being a furry.

Really nice picture; good visual metaphor.

For me it's not black dogs but blue devils :) However, I prefer not to dwell too much on the metaphor; there is no 'he', only me.
