Ah the wonderful sound of open-back headphones. I got myself a set of Sennheiser HD 599SE's on black friday for a mere $79 and I gotta say they are the closest thing to a private performance for my money so far. Closed backed ones have a "studio sound" and they silence room noise, which is fine if you find yourself in a control room or noisy situation, but they are confining. While open backed are more akin to sitting with a nice set of speakers in front of you and not strapped to your head, or a band playing for you and not on top of you, the open backed ones sound so much more natural and you can carry on a conversation, hear when the dog needs to be let out and when the mailman rings the bell.
I will keep my industry standard Sony MDR-7506 ones for noisy situations but I will be enjoying my new ones and eyeing some higher end ones now that I know what they do better.

Yeah, man. What are you rockin' these days, you got 800s's and stopped, right? Did you start low and go high or did you stampede right for those big boys? I know that the 600 and 800 series are better but these are just so amazingly good for the money. What improvement can I expect from a 600, from an 800? My headphone amp is a French made Kora Eclipse tube pre, source is Tidal, Qobuz and HD files over Roon through HQplayer with some favorite filters and shapers.
The HD600 when compared to your 599SE will be much more detailed, neutral and smooth. You will lose a substantial amount of soundstage width but in exchange you'll gain much better imaging and soundstage depth.
The HD600 does require a dedicated amp to run properly.
The HD800S in comparison to the HD600, will sound significantly more detailed, with far more soundstage depth and width, much better imaging, with a more neutral tuning and much better bass quality.
I like both the HD600 and HD800S, but comparing the two is pretty easy since the difference is so night and day.
The HD800S is easily the most detailed headphone I've ever owned, and it pulls it off without it coming off as artificial. It is more detailed than even my Stax earspeakers.
