I first made this lovely treat as part of my family's Christmas Eve 2021 charcuterie board, and I ended up making it again for this year's Christmas Eve. So here it is, just in time for sharing on Christmas, my very own fried camembert, along with the recipe in case you want to make some too!
Ingredients:
- 2-3 250g wheels of camembert
- 1/3 cup of flour
- 2-3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs (regular or Italiano)
- 1/3 tsp of dried thyme
- 1/4 tsp of dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp of salt or sea salt
- 1 pinch of black pepper
- 1/3 cup of jellied cranberry sauce
- 1/3 cup of raspberry jam
Recipe:
1. Cut each camembert wheel into 12 wedges.
2. Grab four small bowls. Put the flour into the first bowl, season it with the salt, pepper and herbs, and gently mix it together with a small whisk or spoon.
3. Crack the eggs into the second bowl and whisk them until well beaten.
4. Set out the third bowl with the breadcrumbs in it, and put some warm water in the fourth bowl to clean off your fingers if they get too much coating stuck to them.
5. For each cheese wedge, coat it in the seasoned flour, then dunk it in the egg and roll it in the breadcrumbs, making sure you give it an even coating of each thing.
6. Use an air fryer to fry the battered cheese wedges for 5 minutes at 300 degrees F, then use tongs to arrange them on a plate.
7. Put the cranberry sauce and raspberry jam into small microwave-safe dishes and heat them for 1 1/2 minutes. Allow them to stand for about 2 minutes before removing them from the microwave.
8. Serve the cheese warm alongside the dips.
And there you have it, a lovely plate of fried camembert with delightful dips, a hassle-free appetizer that's perfect for any special occasion! Make them for Christmas, Hannukah, New Year's Eve, Thanksgiving, Easter, birthday parties, a romantic night in, an evening of warm comfort food after a day out in the snow--there are no limits when it comes to good times to enjoy delicious cheese dishes!
