“Try the green potion!” You suggest to Mystic. He turns to pick it up.
“Ew, not the green potion...” He protests, but he sets you down on the counter and gets the bottle anyway. He uncorks the bottle and is immediately confronted by the green fluid's bitter scent. It bubbled and boiled like hot mud, nearly splattering over the rim. He sets the potion down.
“I'm sorry, I can't even hold it. It smells nasty!”
“I don't like it either but I'm still shrinking,” You protest, already a mere one foot tall and falling. As you walk over to the bottle things only get worse. By the time you get there, you're much too small it pick it up and you didn't want to risk knocking it over.
“Help me up!” You ask Mystic as the bottle slowly grows taller than you. The orca gently pinches you around your hips and lifts you up to the rim of the bottle. You lean forward to start drinking when you accidentally fall in!
You are only about an inch tall now and quickly start sinking into the bottle. You can't tell what the potion is doing, but your stomach hurts. It feels like something is growing out of you. A tail? Another leg? Two legs? Four? What was going on?
“Lucky!” Mystic shouts in panic, ignoring the smell and getting close to the bottle to look for you. He is about to grab the bottle to pour it out when a long, black tentacle slithers over the rim. It's quickly followed by another and another. It looks like you are about to pull yourself out of the bottle when instead the tentacles grip and shatter the bottle around you, freeing you from its confines. The potion was gone, having been completely absorbed by your body. At least the plan had worked: you were definitely growing.
“What did you do that for?” You demand, “Be more careful next time!”
Your round, purple hippo body sat atop eight inky-black tentacles, looking like a half-octopus, a creature Mystic recognized as a Cecaelia, but you continued to grow and change before Mystic's eyes. New tentacles kept appearing, either as existing ones split into two or brand new ones grew out of your body. Your eyes glowed a bright red as your arms split into tentacles as well. The round features of your face melted away into more angular shapes- more fitting of a merfolk than a terrestrial creature. You pull yourself along the table and wrap several tentacles around Mystic's arm, drawing yourself close. The move was all the more intimidating as you continued to grow larger- instead of pulling yourself to him, you were pulling him to YOU.
“Wha-what are you?” Mystic stammered, “Some kind of Lovecraftian monster?”
“I am your new overlord,” You correct the orca, “Do what I say and maybe I can be persuaded to find a use for you!”
“Lucky, I'm your friend!” Mystic plead.
“Yes... I do like you...” You admitted. You lift the orca into the air as you slither down from the table and onto the floor. Now twice as tall as the orca was and taking up much more room with your roiling tentacles. You decide that the orca could do something for you right now. You tighten your coils around him and bring him face to face with you, baring sharp, pointed teeth.
“Now that my transformation is complete,” You say with a toothy grin, “I have a tremendous need to lay my first clutch of eggs. Thank you for volunteering to be their host!”
Mystic's eyes widened and he raised a hand over his mouth. It wouldn't be long before your eggs would be safely inside.
