My son Crud who has every disease. This is where I complain about him, and when he's done that main post will be positive.
This is a clay figure that I started on impulse. I did not make a very reliable armature and that caused everything to fall apart towards the end. Literally!
So yeah it had a more dynamic fun pose at first, but as I worked I had to stiffen the pose more and more to keep it steady. And I fiddled with it so much because I worked lumpy and unevenly. With clay, you're supposed to sorta make a ball and smooth it out and then like that's your main piece. But I kept slapping clay bits together and it got lumpy as a result.
I was also working with really old clay. I know Sculpey doesn't dry out, but it kinda still does dry out. Especially when it's been sitting open in a drawer for at least two years. So I feel like that's why I had issues with cracking and being too stiff to smooth out. Then adding new fresh clay on top really made it freak out. I couldn't keep it together anymore, it was so heavy that limbs kept falling off.
So I just baked it, figuring I'll glue the bastards back on. But glue doesn't really hold it that well. And more than I expected fell off during the baking process. Which meant way more lumpy glue than expected. So I painted over it pretty thickly to kinda smooth it out, which didn't work, but at least there's a thing acrylic membrane over the cracked problematic bits now.
I am currently away from home because Crimmus but when I'm back I can finish painting a few details. I'll just keep it pretty simple. Wahoo!
