Actually carnivorous, native to Finland but spread throughout Europe in the past.
Summer coat is mottled grey-green, what you're seeing here is the winter coat. Snow-white, black eyes. Er, horns and hooves should be black too, but then you'd lose too much detail. Maybe in the full background version hurr durr.
This is where the myth comes from! They disguise themselves with the scent of the reindeer or deer herds, and then they eat the weak. They are beautiful, and also eat travelers skiing through the Finnish forests.
The neck is mostly floof. :D Disguises the real curve of neck, makes it harder to get a solid mouthful of 'em, and keeps 'em warm.

Epic! The neckfloof and tailfloof are cute. I like the head shape, it's like oh hey a deer WAIT NO THAT THING DOES NOT NIBBLE GRASS FFUU. And don't worry about the black hooves/horns, even solid black ones should be mostly dark grey/brown and shiny enough to have highlights. But I guess you know that and don't want to complicate the lineart.

I wanted to keep the picture just black and white, and it seemed like I would have had to drop to a much smaller brush to get the glossy, keratinous lines on the hooves.
I think I did a not too terrible job at making it look vaguely deerish while still giving it a predatory look. So I went with the thing some cats have, where their teeth show just a tiny bit over their lower lip. I hope it worked okay.
Question: Do you have any interest in seeing the summer-coat of them?
