It was the quiet evening on Sweet Apple Acres, as the sun began to set over the apple orchard. Colouring the scene in a beautiful orange and red screen.
Applejack and Big Macintosh were working together to finish the apple harvest.
Applejack was collecting the apples from the baskets, while Big Mac was bucking the trees. It was beginning to get late, as the apple siblings were still working. Both ponies gave the occasional yawn as they worked.
About halfway through their job, Applejack decided to take a quick break, sitting down under one of the trees. Putting a straw stem between her teeth as she looked up at the gradient sky.
“Sunsets sure are somethin’ else eh big mac?” Applejack eventually spoke up, looking over at her big brother, smiling softly as he made his way over, sitting beside his little sister.
“eeyup” Big Mac simply responded, as he settled in the grass, looking up at the sky with a smile.
The stars slowly make their grand appearance as the sun settles down for the night, and the moon rises into the sky.
“How do you think Luna handles the stars? All ah know is she handles the moon. So how do the stars know when to come out?” Applejack asked, mostly thinking out loud. Her voice filled with curiosity.
“Ah aint' too sure actually. Maybe she casts a spell to make them appear right before she raises the moon?” Big Mac suggests, making Applejack shrug and nod in agreement.
They never really thought about the princesses of Equestria. Apart from Twilight of course. But Celestia and Luna? They didnt really think or talk about them unless a random thought came to mind.
After a moment, Applejack gave a chuckle and looked up at her brother, playfully elbowing his side.
“Heheheh, well ya never know. Maybe we can get Spike to send a Scroll to them there princesses, Simply ask Luna how she works the stars. She’d be more confused than a wasp on a mild day of winter!”
Both apple siblings burst out laughing at Applejack’s joke. Applejack gave a loud snort as their laughter echoed into the sky.
Applejack then stood up, dusting herself down from sitting on the dirt path.
“welp. We need to get back to work. Otherwise we’ll be out here all night. It's a real shame Applebloom is sick. Or we’d be done by now.”
The farm pony spoke up. Big Mac giving a nod.
Applebloom had fallen ill with a rather intense cold. Leaving her bed bound with a bad temperature and has been put on AntiBiotics to help battle it.
The 2 of them went back to work.
Until Applejack made a terrible mistake…
The 2 of them were rather tired while they were working, and so their critical thinking was beginning to be traded out to be able to function and continue to work.
The orange farm pony walked over, going behind Big Mac to pick up a basket of apples to put into the cart.
As Applejack was doing that, Big Mac went to buck the tree behind him. But instead of his hooves making contact with tree bark, he made contact with something soft, and fluffy.
It was Applejack. His strong buck sent his younger sister flying across the farm, until she came into contact with a tree. 3 sharp branches catching the farm pony. Impaling her body…
A branch went through her chest, her neck, and her head. Coming out on the other side. The top branch came out perfectly between her eyes.
Blood went flying, hitting big mac in the face, staining his fur with the dark red life source. More blood coming out from behind and staining the tree.
Her hat became impaled on another branch slightly higher up.
Applejack’s body quickly went limp. Life almost immediately fading from her. Colour fading from her face and the natural shine vanishing from her eyes.
Big Mac stood there in shock, looking down at himself, now covered in his sister's blood.
Tears began to cloud his vision as he saw the hoof prints left on Applejack’s body. 2 large hoofprints left on the orange farm pony’s side.
Big Mac quickly fought through his shock, his voice slowly growing in volume as he backed away from Applejack’s body. His ears folding flat against his head and tears flowing like waterfalls down Big Mac’s face as he broke into a full sprint toward the barn.
Yelling at the top of his lungs for somepony’s attention.
“GRANNY!! APPLEBLOOM!! I MADE A HUGE MISTAKE!”
The stallion’s voice echoed through the air as he made his way toward the barn, ready to immediately admit what he did to his family.
Many months passed after the incident.
The funeral had been held, and many members of the apple family came to help do Applejack’s jobs. As well as help Big Macintosh move on from the loss of his baby sister.
Braeburn was visiting from Appleosa to help out on the farm. He was bucking apples from trees, letting them fall into the basket. Then looking over at the fields. To see Big Mac.
The stallion was a mess.
He was considerably skinnier from the incident. He was ignoring his family out of guilt, refusing to eat or take care of himself. Deciding to work himself to the bone every single day. Only stopping when he became desperate for food or water.
He had VERY black rings around his eyes, his mane was a lot longer than before the incident, and very unkempt. His eyes were bloodshot, and he was a lot more fuzzy as he hadn't been into Ponyville to get his fur trimmed.
Braeburn’s ears folded back as he made his way down the field, walking over to Big Mac and standing in front of the stallion.
“Hey big guy… Ah know what happened was tough, and you must be feelin’ very guilty. But ya cant keep doin’ this to yaself… You’re going to make yaself very sick Braeburn explained to the dishevelled stallion.
But he simply ignored him, going past his cousin with the plough, tilling the ground ready for crops seeds.
Braeburn watched Big Mac walk past. Beginning to walk beside him, concern lining his face. Every apple family member had seen Big Mac slowly get worse and worse. Even Twilight and her friends, and the Cutiemark Crusaders tried making him feel better or take care of himself. But nothing was working.
“Ya know… It wasnt ya fault…”
This phrase alone made Big Mac stop in his tracks. His deep red eyes slowly turned to look at his cousin.
“It wasnt ya fault. Ya couldnt have known she was behind ya… Ya were both exhausted… Ya were wokin’ yaselves to the bone! All so you had another successful harvest. It was nothin’ but a simple mistake… The police investigated what happened and retold the story exactly… Ya not at fault. It was an accident.”
Braeburn explained. As he saw Big Mac begin to tear up. The 2 cousins embraced, and Big Mac burst into tears. His despair filled wails echo over the farm.
Braeburn let big mac get everything off of his chest. Allowing the stallion to get everything out
He lost his sister. He lost his best friend. He lost somepony very close to him. And he lost the one pony that he spoke in full to…
I hope you all liked the story! i really enjoyed writing it, it was nice to get back into storymaking again!

Bad Ending: He kills himself that night.
Neutral Ending: He keeps on like this until his premature death a few days later from starvation.
Good Ending 1: He learns to move on and be happy(?) again.
Good Ending 2: Applejack wasn't actually dead, thanks to the intervention of a mysterious masked man.
Canon "Ending:" We never find out what happened after that... "To Be Continued," my ass.
