These next five heroforge models of Faian will be depicting the Lichery Wars, a conflict between Empara Curdia and the old mage autocracies which turned to immortality and necromancery to achieve their various ends.
_____
In a period before the realms of men became Illuminated, the empire of Empara Curdia was still quite young, and the Curdan tradition of magic was still in its infancy. The archmages were powerful and skilled magical leaders who founded the first guilds and authorities on magic, their work in magical theory and crafts still are taught to the current age. Yet, their legacy as mighty and legendary mages was forever tainted by the Lichery Wars, a conflict which brewed from the archmages in their pride and desire for knowledge had traded knowledge with the Kerkian lich Mel Coldfinger, attaining the crafts to extend their lives indefinitely. Hiding themselves away into legend, the mages and their eccentric acolytes plotted to overthrow the empire, although each believed they would rule. They awaited for a time when they thought the empire was most vulnerable, and began their dark crusade in Remosia.
The reasoning was always different, but for a short period of time, the Liches unified under the powerful archmage Saro, a legendary wizard from the Isle of War. Famed for his ability to call down hellish fire upon his foes, the eccentric mage unified his fellow liches who began building up their power in Denovia and Remosia, and used terrifying sorcery and slavish armies of abomination and undead to 'liberate' the people from Curdan rule. Yet, the liches with their knowledge of magic and armies of acolytes were often unable to agree on anything, their years spent building their cults of personality made them over eager and incompetent in other fields, ultimately resulting in the disastrous Battle of the Blue Flamed Reeds, where the vast majority of the unity of the Lichery rebels was crushed and most were destroyed by a combined Curdan force.
Betrayal and petty revenge dominated the temporary realms of the Lichery rebels, with alliance made and broken within days and allowing the Curdan armies to slowly but surely reconquer territory. Eventually, the rebellion ceased and most of the liches fled north rather than face the wrath of their Curdan masters. The consequences of their actions had ripples in history, primarily resulting in the Academic Contest, a mage civil war during the Imperial War of Religion. Necromancery and it's arts were quickly deemed too dangerous and were thus their tomes destroyed, but the Lichery wars would continue in small spurts. Liches from the ancient past still crop up rather suddenly, still trying to use their sheer personal power to overthrow the empire, but ultimately in the end would be put down and likely forced to head to Beastfolk lands to retire.
