Easing down in the seat, I checked the mirrors before slipping the key in. Hands tingling with anticipation as the truck started up smoothly. Finally, some luck in this hell hole! Grinning, I shifted it into drive before easing down the gravel path toward the main road.

With a soft squeak, the giant started after me. It seemed to be smiling as well, but I could barely tell why. Did it not know I was going to leave it?

A smile crept up my face as finally, after days of being this thing's prisoner, I could ditch it.

Rolling down onto the main road, I winced as the truck hit the bump of smooth asphalt. I glanced back to see the giant struggling to keep up. Taking my chance, I adjusted my leg awkwardly to hit the gas. The truck's engine revved within a moment, and I began down the road.

The giant squeaked out again, and as it tried to speed up, its hand snapped down to its leg. It cried out, falling over hard onto its side while looking up at me, driving off.

My heart froze while my mind reimagined the last few days. Even earlier, when I had fallen over, it offered to help me when I fell...

I grit my teeth while easing off the gas, letting the truck roll along while the giant scrambles to try and stand. With a hand on its leg, it stared at me for a time. Its mouth is agape as if shocked...

Shocked that I was able to leave it? Or shocked I had stopped? Does it matter?

"Just... Drive..."

I grit my teeth, squeezing hard on the steering wheel as the vehicle slowly rumbles along, losing speed by the second. My knuckles turned white with how hard I gripped the rubber.

"Just… Keep… Driving!"

The giant's face showed just as much confusion as mine, and soon it slowly hobbled along. A soft, pained squeak followed each step on its bad leg.

As it got closer and closer, I was expecting the thing to be angry. Some feet back, it slowed down before stopping to take breaths. Its eyes flickered up to the truck. Despite its glowing visor, I could see a twinkle in the corners of its eyes...

"I wouldn't have gotten this far without you..."

I groaned in a frustrated voice, grabbing my rearview mirror to get a better look at the giant...

Pity? Was that what I was feeling?

It looks like a mouse, a cute adorable Earth animal... But these things are anything but cute...

Did I owe this... Thing... Anything?

I forced my eyes closed while the image of Apolo 2 erupting in bright blue flames flickered in my mind... The panicked voice of its Radio Operator cut to static while the vehicle sputtered in a fiery blue plasma...

After a long moment, I opened my eyes, staring in front of me in utter silence.

Looking back at the giant behind me, I realized something about how it 'captured' me... Where was its friend? The lizard from the city?

The more I thought about this, the stupider I felt while staring at the giant... Did this thing protect me? Did it kill the lizard? Why did it help with the radio? Why was it so scared when I yelled at it about the truck...

Slamming my hand down on the steering wheel, I flinched as the horn blew. The giant did as well, squeaking loudly in shock before backing away...

I raised a hand outside the truck, motioning to the giant with a defeated sigh.

"Hurry up before I change my mind!"
