"I don't understand," I say. "Wouldn't be easier to just go straight through?"
"Easier?" The rest of the party laughs. "The beast is four times even your size! You think you can just..."
Their faces drop as a shadow falls over us. They all dive for cover under whatever rocky outcroppings they can find.
"I'm just saying," I say as I raise my shield, "I could probably fly around, but it's not so easy for you guys without wings. And..." The rock crumbles to dust as it strike my shield, pebbles scattering themselves around my feet. "...I'm not making three trips to carry you all across. It'd be easier just to go straight through."
They all stare at me, silent and wide-eyed.
