You'd think the Equestrian military would put a guy like him, married to a member of the monarchy, through all sorts of military training and qualifications programs. Like Jump Training/Airborne.
It's the same shtick with some real life royals who enlist in the military. Helps them understand what the boys at the front have to go through, makes them think twice before demanding for war, like those chickenhawks.
