Years ago,
haligren ran this awesome RP group on DeviantArt called Silver & Bone. The group was gonna do a collab project where everyone made a tarot card of their character with a shared border motif by
Sturmschwinge. The deck never came together, but I've wanted to finish my card for years.
My contribution was to be The Hanged Man, featuring my character Zeke. The Hanged Man is meant to be the card of ultimate surrender, of being suspended in time, and of martyrdom and sacrifice to the greater good, whether intended or not. The traditional card shows a man suspended upside down by one foot, hands bound behind his back. He wears red and blue, colors that respectively represent the physical body and knowledge. A halo around his head similarly represents gained insight or awareness, and his expression is calm and serene, indicating his has allowed himself to be put into his predicament for some higher purpose.
For Zeke's version, the colors of the clothes have been relocated to the rope him and a blindfold and muzzle around his eyes; a physical form that binds him, and a knowledge he didn't want or ask for. The halo is replaced by the moon, which has its own implications about what kind of gained insight has been forced on him by his transformation. He lacks the serenity of the original, instead struggling against his binds; he does not want this higher purpose that has brought him here, but he is here none the less, and must accept his fate.
I'm delighted to have finally finished this long-outstanding project. I may come back to doing more tarot cards in the future, but for now I have a lot of other work to catch up on.
