My friend's idea is that after the events of Robin Hood, Hiss eventually escaped from jail and fled to France. He ended up joining a Romani caravan and eventually fell in love with the Horned Viper daughter of the Caravan's leader. They married and eventually had a son and a daughter.

Their children are hybrids - their son is a serious sort while his sister is more silly. Hiss ditched his old clothes to keep himself hidden and wears more simple clothing to blend in with the Romani caravan. :)
