A painted feather gift, commissioned by my friend Jeanne to her friend Sandy. Emrys is a barred owl that is a permanent resident at Horizon Wings, due to an injury that required the removal of his wing. Barred owls are just so beautiful!

I feel sorry for the one winged birds. We have a few amputee Eagles at the rehab center I work at and they just don't get around very well. <3
It's policy not to amputate birds anymore for us.

This is beautiful! I love the markings, so much detail on such a small painting.

There's actually a law in Connecticut now that makes it illegal to remove an entire wing. Emrys had his wing removed prior to that law, which is why it's legal for him to be one-winged. The law makes sense, since it is very difficult for him to get around. He has 'handicapped-accessible ramps' for him to climb up in case he loses balance.
Yea, I'm not sure if it's law here but we already feel bad for the one-winged Eagles (they've all been in the center since the 80s and are elderly now) so we don't even consider amputation an option. If it's just the wing-tip they'll still be able to get around no problem but the whole wing. D:
We have little steps for them to get up to get around their cage too. :D
