Before the Meowstic hybrid came to be, he was a regular member of his species. Tending to his parents' side at the farm, living a quiet and peaceful life, even if labor came to be on a regular basis.

One day, disaster struck for the family, as the last thing the other cats saw was an ominous Reuniclus running away, with an unconscious Salem with him. And before anyone could pursue him, he was gone.

He was, according to this scientist's log, the 34th Meowstic he had caught for his scheme. Bitter from his banishment from the military project he was part in due to his unethical tendencies, Dr. Reuni doubled down, and decided to create living weapons out of pokémon.

After his experiences, he had become fascinated with the power of legends. After all, if their actions could cause a black hole, their power was nothing to scoff at, even if his work had really helped one in his endeavors.

And so, he turned to the Lake Trio... origin of pokéman aspects of the mind all around. Thanks to samples he managed to get over the years, he wanted to infuse certain pokémon with their power... to make unstoppable weapons. Ideally, ones with corresponding types, to further enhance their affinity.

And Salem was his first success, after the 7810th Experiment. Which prompted his new code name, M34AZ7810E, which he shortened in his logs as MAZE.

Thanks to his genius, he turned what would normally be a failure into an amazing tool. You see, this Meowstic, unlike the divinity it is based on, isn't immune to his own energy. His own, willpower bending and suppressing energy. And so, instead of relying on the pokéman mind to serve him, he simply had to let his own energy nullify his will... and use a chip to control his actions.

Stored inside a statis tank, the whole process is being made. And soon, a powerful, but mentally present though unable to act Salem would be born, controlled by a MAZE persona, perfectly obedient to the Reuniclus's control.

And he wasn't alone too. Other fusions were well on their way... including a certain Hattrem.

So yeah, background into Salem, and also Felicia from Day 18. This is about a mad scientist Reuniclus, that, in my canon, is derived from the Reuniclus from PokéPark too, explaining the references I made regarding the plot and the hints at Darkrai and his interest towards the legendaries that he meets in game.

This is also explaination for Day 10, where Salem, or more accurately Maze, is under full control.
