Some of you might remember this as a WIP in my scraps, possibly not, but for Christmas I bought a close friend this portrait space on Furcadia, and I really wanted to draw her something to put in it.
My tablet is still broken, so I couldn't draw up something new, and I was forced to refine that old horrible looking WIP that I swore to myself I was just going to abandon with all of the flaws in it.
I forgot how annoying coloring with a mouse could be, especially lining with no pressure sensitivity!
Meara is of course a semi-mad scientist, although mostly she's just madly adorable. I went with a Sin City style here out of lack of creativity, and because that one scene where the light reflected off of Elijah Wood's glasses always just stuck with me. It was at that moment that he would no longer always be the Hobbit I had come to know.

I'm sorry to hear! My hands tremble pretty badly, too, most of the time. My mouse is pretty sensitive, so it's harder with a mouse for me that being able to hold a pen in my hand to draw.
I used to use a mouse all of the time, but there was no fine linework on any of those! ^.^
Thank you!

Yep, you try to draw, and after a short moment, you get this bad sensation on the wrist, and the more you continue, the more you want to shake your hand and smash it against something. That is why when I try digital without tablet I try to draw with the vectorial tool on photoshop.
I am very impressed for your current drawing thou, black with a linear that way is a very great render. And you definitively draw hands better than me ^^:

It took me months to get the hands and nose just right, and I spent a lot of time on the lab coat, but to be honest I covered up more than half the lineart with black so that most of the bad looking areas can't be seen. I'm such a cheater! ^^
Thank you so much for the compliments, though! You're really sweet. ^.^

I think I'm glad I did, too, though I really wish I could have improved it. Two of the biggest flaws in the piece to me are how the hair looks (I never can get hair to not look like a wig) and how big the nose is, which Meara said herself was way too large, even after I scaled it down. ^^;
Thank you for your kind words, but my talent is little. If you knew how many years it took me to get this simple sketch out, you'd think so, too.

You shouldn't be so harsh on yourself, but we are always our own worse critics. Looking through your gallery, I think your hair dynamics work fine, there is fluidity, that is very important. Also despite the threat of sounding like a very old person; think of the oyster and how many years it takes to make a pearl.
