VindicAgents Ceneca-9009 file card by Pamela Ojeda and me
It's been a year since I last posted anything about VindicAgents, my story using pre-existing characters. If anyone's been waiting, I'm sorry it took so long to continue the project, but I was concentrating on The Wild Guesses for most of the year; in fact, the reason I did this card today is because I was going to start doing file cards for the Guesses but realized that I had unfinished business that I should take care of first.
Anyway! Ceneca-9009 is a four-armed, reptilian alien scientist from the Archie Comics version of Sonic the Hedgehog. She was created by Karl Bollers (using the pseudonym Benny Lee) and (presumably) designed by Art Mawhinney. She first did a cameo in issue #118 but didn't get a full appearance until #129, where she's on trial for deroboticizing the Mobians; this is bad because her past includes a well-meaning but misguided attempt to save an entire species from roboticization, which wound up destroying them instead and leading her planet to make deroboticization a capital offense. Sheesh! That's a terrible burden of guilt to put on a character we're supposed to sympathize with, especially since the whole situation was really contrived IMHO. Sonic saves her from execution, but then her planet goes to war, and we never learn her ultimate fate because the whole plotline was abandoned when Archie overhauled the comics to match the video games' continuity more closely. (See these links for the whole sad story.) I liked Ceneca despite the mistakes she (and the writers) made and decided to redeem her by putting a less destructive version of her in VindicAgents. Hope you like!

So glad you like it! I always thought that the writers gave poor Ceneca a raw deal. Her situation in VindicAgents is not great, but it's better than it was in the Sonic comics, and eventually she and her teammates will earn their happy ending.
